In preparation of her highly-anticipated debut full-length album, Fake It Flowers, beabadoobee has unveiled her new single “Care” to wet listeners’ palettes. beabadoobee is one of the most buzzworthy artists of 2019, with over 650 million streams and counting. With Fake It Flowers due on Dirty Hit later this year, we can only expect to see these numbers continue to drastically rise by year end.
“Care” is a vulnerable new direction for the singer-songwriter. It has a late ’90s vintage movie vibe, where you can imagine yourself driving down a highway. The vibe has an angsty and moody feel, mostly targeting anger towards society and the toxic people she associates with. Through the lyrics, listeners can observe that bea is rejecting sympathy from anyone who doesn’t take the time to get to know the real her or understand what she’s gone through – complete with a cathartic, swooping chorus.
The official video for “Care” was created and directed by long-term collaborator, bedroom, while under lockdown. The fast pace of the cinematography is perfectly coupled with the slower, more emotional energy of the song, with shots never focusing on one thing for too long.
“I never expected to be making the first video from my album during a pandemic,” said Bea. “I was so lucky to be locked down with the bedroom guys, it feels like it turned out as one of the most personal, real videos I’ve made. I’m so excited to share it!”
