Cassian Reveals Long-Awaited Revamp of ICEHOUSE’s Iconic Track ‘Great Southern Land’

Australian-born, now Los Angeles-based DJ/producer Cassian presents his highly-anticipated rendition of the beloved anthem “Great Southern Land” by iconic Australian group ICEHOUSE. With his trademark melodic house and techno production style, Cassian revitalizes this timeless track that once captivated the entire nation during the 1980s. Having featured prominently in his live performances over the past year, this fresh interpretation by Cassian is now unleashed through Rose Avenue Records, the esteemed label helmed by RÜFÜS DU SOL.

Originally unleashed in 1982, “Great Southern Land” swiftly became an emblem of Australian pop culture. Its immense popularity led to an official release in North America and Europe, spreading the sounds of Australian new-wave across the globe. With the blessings of ICEHOUSE mastermind Iva Davies, Cassian now takes this track on another exhilarating journey through the airwaves in 2023, commanding some of the grandest stages worldwide, including Coachella, Printworks, and more.

Cassian explained: “As an Australian, I was born with this song in my blood. I dreamed about making my own version for 10 years before reaching out to see if it was possible. Having full approval from Iva Davies/ICEHOUSE and being involved with the legacy of this song is probably the greatest honor of my career thus far, one that I don’t take lightly.

After I was given the stems, I spent the past year slowly, carefully & respectfully piecing it together. Around 100 versions later I’m proud to present the final, which I even mastered myself. Huge thank you to management, to Simon Moor & of course to Iva and his team for making the impossible possible.”
