Dance Destinations: Bali’s Best Pool Clubs

The Indonesian island of Bali has long been famed for its beautiful beaches, tantalizing local culture, serene views and friendly people. From the cliffs of Uluwatu, to the beaches in Seminyak and the monkey’s in Ubud, Bali is a playground if you know where to go.

While there is certainly plenty to offer in relaxation, sometimes you just want to hit play on some music while watching the sun go down with a drink in your hand. From Diplo and A$AP Rocky to Peggy Gou, we’ll tell you where the biggest artists head to, in search of quality sounds and good drinks.

Over the past decade, Bali has fast become a top music destination playing host to a variety of world-class events, artists, venues and experiences. Its now roaring club scene has produced some real hidden gems, with its own distinct twist that infuses the surroundings some might even say it’s the Ibiza of South East Asia.

Bali’s club scene once thrived off the streets of Kuta, now that’s the number one place to avoid unless you are fresh out of high school! With plenty of cool bars and day clubs to offer around town, here are what could be some of the finest pool, beach and cliff-side bars in the southern hemisphere.


Manarai Beach House

Nusa Dua – $$$

This beach paradise only opened last year but in a short time, the venue has played host to the likes of A$AP Rocky, Jonas Blue, Galantis, as well as the mighty Elrow for it’s first-ever Bali show. The venue is located slightly away from the chaos, so when it’s business as usual Manarai is a paradise with a beautiful pool, amazing food and fresh cocktails.

Next up they have a set from RAC and are throwing Sunny Side Up festival which will see Flume, Grace Carter, Tokimonsta and Yahtzel performing along it’s beachfront. Manarai is owned and operated by the Ismaya Group who are behind some of the best live events and establishments in the country, such as DWP, Blowfish, Dragonfly and Skye in Jakarta.


Potato Head Beach Club

Seminyak – $$$

One of the undoubtedly busier of your Bali options is Potato Head Beach Club. This is a wind-down spot that has it all, connected to their Katmama hotel you can find high-quality fresh food, an amazing variety of uniquely inspired cocktails and quality music all night long. If you’re looking to park yourself for a day by the pool you can reserve a cabana, but careful the excellent service will keep your drinks coming.

The likes of Busy P, Disclosure, Gilles Peterson, Skream and Jackmaster have played the venue. If you were still unsure of the level of cool this place has, look no further than their clothing collaboration with Peggy Gou and the performance by Virgil Abloh to round off their Future Design Week. They’ve also hosted events like Ultra Music Festival Bali, and partnered with VICE, Boiler Room, Stussy & more.

Finns Beach Club & VIP

Canggu – $$$

Celebrating their third birthday recently this poolside spot is situated 10 minutes from Seminyak in the popular Canggu. Its a go-to guaranteed good time, best enjoyed with a reserved day bed. You can also move over to the VIP section for a bit more of an experience away from any chaos. You can enjoy top-class food and drinks by the pool and as the day goes on it tends to fill up. At night they have hosted international talents such as MK, Martin Solveig, LDRU, Robin Shulz, Dom Dolla, Golden Features, as well as the likes of Clean Bandit and American electronic Icon A-Trak.


The Lawn

Canggu – $$

Taking a more mellow and intimate approach Canggu’s The Lawn offers up a visual delight with a pool right on the beach along with shaded tables under the palm trees. Perfect for viewing sunsets, the venue also serves up tasty food, healthy energy boosters and a wide variety of delicious cocktails. The little slice of paradise has weekly events soundtracked by local talent and has hosted shows from the likes of Tyga and Peking Duk. If you need any more convincing Diplo also decided to jump on the decks for a surprise set whilst at the venue.


Ulu Cliffhouse

Uluwatu – $$

Situated a little drive outside of central Bali, Uluwatu hides some of Bali’s most precious views, and among them, is no doubt what you get at the Ulu Cliffhouse. Walking through the villa’s entryway you are soon greeted by the generous pool in the middle, surrounding it are comfortable shaded tables situated under palm trees. There’s also a restaurant that serves some of the freshest fish on the island and you can even climb down the cliff to their new deck if you fancy being a little more close to the water. Lucky enough to be there to catch one of their one-off events? Go. For. It. Carl Cox, Fat Boy Slim, Patrick Topping and Doorly are just a few of the names who have played the venue previously so you know they have their ear to the ground.

La Brisa

Uluwatu – $$

Nestled amongst Bali’s Echo Beach, La Brisa is an exotic hideaway playground. It was built using reclaimed wood from more than 500 old fisherman boats and the vibe radiates ocean themes, every tiny aspect tells a unique story. La Brisa today is one of the trendiest, yet sustainable eco-friendly venues in the island that represents true Balinese character. It also serves up lip-smackingly delicious food and cocktails. Providing a steady flow of local and international talent, you get hand-picked music that will perfectly soundtrack the surroundings.


Omnia

Uluwatu – $$$

Situated amongst the beautiful cliffs of Uluwatu, Omnia is built for quality vegas style entertainment. The club features a stunning pool that wraps around the edge and you have Japanese fine-dining upstairs. Omnia happily prides itself as Bali’s only superclub and provides the finest main stage dance artists. With an iconic cube on the edge of the water that has become an Instagram sensation, the venue has hosted everyone from Martin Garrix, Marshmello, Kygo and Tiesto.


Bonus: Oneeighty

Uluwatu – $$$

This last one doesn’t go late into the night or regularly host energetic parties but for daytime winding down by the pool, it’s definitely worth a notable mention. Whilst enjoying fresh coconuts, breakfast on the water or gulping down the finest cocktails you can test your fears and swim over the 500ft cliff drop. In addition to their stunning infinity pool, the Oneeighty resort is designed with perfection from top to bottom. It also has a fully-equipped bowling alley, multiple pools and boasts exotic sunset views like none other.
