Rapidly rising Hong Kong R&B star Derek Chan has kicked off the second half of the year with a stunning summer-fling anthem called “Piece Of Your Time”. The low-slung single follows a string of releases including ‘Sick of Goodbyes’, ‘Ocean’ and ‘Island 1’ which have shown a diverse palate which reminds listeners of the likes of Frank Ocean and Bazzi. On the new single he features fellow Hong Kong native Haysen Cheng, a rising star in the regional Rap scene. It also comes alongside an accompanying video which was directed by Tim Richardson.
Since it’s release this month “Piece Of Your Time” has become a quick fan favourite in Hong Kong and has continued to garner listeners from all over South-East Asia. Haysen Cheng who makes his appearance on the opening verse of the track is a rapper from Hong Kong with a background in Shanghai and Gran Canaria. Cheng started quickly gaining regional buzz after picking up a co-sign from Trouble, one of the biggest names to come out of the Atlanta scene with collaborations from Drake and The Weeknd thanks to “MACHETES” from his first full-length project Durags & Chopsticks.
Cheng’s “MACHETES” was released with a grimy and fast-paced music video that was reposted by FirePanda, one of China’s most influential blogs which led to Hong Kong label b2 Music adding the track to their “VIBE PRESENTS: URBAN ASIA VOl. 3” compilation album, with previous volumes featuring some of Asia’s biggest hitmakers Jackson Wang, Ramenegvrl and Higher Brothers.
