After a twenty-five-year wait, DJ and producer Fatboy Slim has joined forces with UK royalty The Rolling Stones to officially release ‘Satisfaction Skank’.
Out now via Southern Fried Records and ABKCO Records, the track has long been considered one of the most iconic ‘unreleased’ bootlegs in electronic music history. It combines the raw, fuzz-guitar hook of The Rolling Stones’ ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ with the high-octane energy of Fatboy Slim’s ‘The Rockafeller Skank’.
To facilitate the release, the original stems of the generation-defining anthem were entrusted to Norman Cook. In a testament to the rarity of the source material, these stems were delivered to Cook in an armoured van, allowing him to fully recreate the track into a polished dancefloor weapon while retaining the stadium-scale power of the originals.
Speaking on the release, Fatboy Slim says,
‘Over countless years I have always dreamed of an official release for this mash up. It has been a favourite in my DJ sets for over a quarter of a century, I can confirm it is thoroughly road tested and fit for purpose….’
The mashup represents a collision of music history, fusing Keith Richards’ iconic 1965 riff with the big beat energy of Fatboy Slim’s 1998 hit. Cook first tested the fusion during a set at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC in 1999, leaving audiences unsure if they were watching a band or a DJ.
‘Satisfaction Skank’ melds the raw analogue crunch of the 60s with sample-driven modern production. For this official release, Cook has subtly lifted the tempo to meet contemporary dancefloor standards without sacrificing the original swagger.
