graves Addresses Claims Of Alleged Rape and Sexual Assault

Yesterday claims emerged online that producer and DJ graves had raped and made unwanted sexual advances against a number of women who bravely spoke out, following one account it became clear this was not an isolated incident and in a second claim; the girl involved was just 15 years old at the time of the alleged incident.

On June 10 a Twitter user @tiffanynonaka posted screenshots of notes; explaining what occurred in her situation. After meeting Graves following interactions on social media, they had hung out casually however when they met for a second time he kept forcing himself onto her and eventually “forced his fingers in [her]“, even though she “clearly said no countless times making up excuses but he still refused to stop“.

Tiffany then shows conversation screenshots between her and graves, as well as between graves and a friend of hers discussing the incident. After sharing her story, another girl came forward to Tiffany sharing a similar story but with even more worrying circumstances.

The second account now revealed as user @Rude_girrl came forward as the first victim, she revealed that when she was 15, graves (then just out of high school at that point) offered to come and pick her up to give her a ride home late at night. After driving around for a while he pulled into a parking lot, took off her seat belt and forces himself on her, insisting “it’s fine“. She “remembers that [she] told him stop, but he didn’t, he forces his way into me“. “It was over before I could fully gather my thoughts. He zipped his tight jeans up and said “let’s get you home“”

She explains further that she knows that he’s done this to countless amounts of girls.

@rudegirrl shared her story to her Instagram followers shortly after.

graves at first silent to the claims has now responded stating that he thought everything he did was consensual and that he will “seek counseling to focus on becoming a better person”. graves does not deny the claims happened but presents a different understanding, stating in the moment he “wildly misjudged the nature of [their] relationship“. Aside from issuing the statement, graves has disabled comments on his instagram posts to prevent further discussion of the issues.

graves has since deactivated his Twitter, which included his statement, you can read it via the screenshot below.

Upon de-activating his social media, graves took to his Patreon to issue another statement.

RL Grime let fans know that he will be taking down their collaboration ‘Arcus’ from stores, as well as contributing a portion of revenue to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) from the tracks that graves contributed to on his NOVA album.

Since the first two victims came forward, more troubling stories regarding graves have come to light.

It is with strong indication that these are not isolated incidents and they demonstrate a worrying pattern of behaviour that is not acceptable under any circumstances. We admire the bravery of the victims coming forward.
