Dance Music Reacts To Hardwell's Retirement

With the news breaking last night that Dutch artist and multiple #1 DJ Hardwell will be indefinitely retiring from touring as well as concluding any deadlines including releases and other obligations for a period of time.  You can read his announcement here.

Many artists have showed support for Hardwell, commenting on his Instagram and Facebook as well doing seperate posts. With most of it being positive support, deadmau5 on the other hand wasn't as nice.

Posting just after Hardwell's announcement seems like this is definitely a dig at the Dutch DJ, however deadmau5 claims he has no idea about Hardwell. Knowing deadmau5, you can just interpret this tweet in either way.

Alternatively, Gareth Emery expressed his thoughts with this Instagram post.

THE PRICE OF SUCCESS. . I read this morning that @Hardwell was quitting touring indefinitely. . Good for him. This life and all of its upside comes with a heavy price tag. . I’ve spent a lot of time recently thinking about the cost of success, particularly after the deaths of Avicii and Anthony Bourdain, both of which hit me hard. . Two people who, at least to me, seemed to have it all. How can you achieve so much and still be unhappy? . This life gives you the highest highs and lowest lows. . Getting to stand on stage in front of tens of thousands of people is a natural high that is beyond compare. . But you pay a huge price to stand on that stage. . From years of working your way up, to the 18 hour studio sessions, to the constant rejection and uncertainty, to the jetlag and health impacts of constant traveling. You lose touch with old friends, miss key life occasions, and for a time, sacrifice everything else. . Now I ain’t complaining. This is the life we signed up for, and there’s plenty of upside too, but it fuck me it can takes it’s toll. . If I’d not discovered a daily mindfulness practice, I’d probably have got off the treadmill a long time ago. That really helped me find some balance amongst the madness. . But when people ask why I don’t visit a certain city, it’s because I can’t be doing 150 gigs a year any more. . I turn down far more shows than I take - which buys me back precious time with friends and family, and 8 hours sleep a night. Because I want to do this my whole life, so sustainability is more important than anything. . I wish Robbert all the best with what he does next. He’s a good dude. .
