Electronic music pioneer Kaskade has released his long-awaited studio album, undux, today, December 4, via Arkade and Monstercat. The eight-time GRAMMY-nominated producer’s latest work marks a deliberate return to the storytelling format of his earlier career, shifting away from the singles-driven releases that have defined the streaming era.
The journey to undux required a period of artistic recalibration. Initial recording sessions felt inauthentic, prompting Kaskade to step back and pause the process. It was only after embracing personal challenges and emotional upheaval during the recent summer that the project found its true direction. The result is a cohesive body of work rooted in hope, vulnerability, and quiet truth.
“I have always enjoyed the process of making an album. Set aside some time, get together with some friends and make music. It always felt like telling a story with chapters and verse… Less emphasis on the crescendo but really trying to convey an entire mood or idea.”
Listeners were introduced to the album’s emotional landscape through a series of lead singles. Released in October, ‘DNCR’ and ‘Imprint’ set the tone with a blend of euphoria and reflection. These were followed in November by ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ and ‘Started Over’, tracks that explored the tension between heartbreak and the optimism of new beginnings.
“Undux has always been about connection through subtraction. From the string of shows I did to the full length album, I’ve tried to strip everything to it’s base layer and understand the beauty of walking through feelings and experiences without getting lost in the reverberations. Undux is a starting point and like with most things in life, it’s not obvious what that start will lead to but I’m excited to share that journey with my listeners.”
At the centre of the album lies ‘Obvious’, the project’s focus track. Featuring Kaskade’s own vocals and written from a first-person perspective, the song underscores the record’s personal nature. undux stands as one of the most vulnerable chapters in Kaskade’s discography, combining his signature sound design with a renewed sense of narrative depth.
