Katy Perry Releases ‘Smile’ Album A Day After Welcoming Child

The very recent mother Katy Perry has today released her sixth studio album Smile. It comes three years after its predecessor Witness. Perry described Smile as her “journey towards the light, with stories of resilience, hope, and love”.

Perry has said that the songs on Smile emerged from one of the darkest periods in her life and that the album comes from a place where she fell in after her career and relationship with Orlando Bloom hit a low point back in 2017. She discussed struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts, and stated that gratitude is what saved her life.

The stand out from the album has to be the Zedd produced ‘Never Really Over’, which was released as a single back in May and has since surpassed 400 million streams on Spotify.

In keeping with the joyful tone of the album – and the circus theme of the official video for the title track ‘Smile’ – she is introducing a new game tomorrow: Katy’s Quest. Developed by Double A Labs and Alienware and curated by Mathew Cullen, who directed the ‘Smile’ video, it takes players on a fun, fast-paced romp through a Circus of Misconceptions. The two-level video game, accessible via web browser, will launch tomorrow with a weekend-long kick-off event on Twitch that will benefit MusiCares and Extra Life.

Perry announced the arrival of her daughter with fiancé Orlando Bloom via UNICEF, for which they are both ambassadors, by sharing a black and white image of their little one.

Posted @withregram • @unicef Welcome to the world, Daisy Dove Bloom! We are honoured to introduce Goodwill Ambassadors @KatyPerry and @OrlandoBloom’s new bundle of joy.⠀ ⠀ “We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” Katy and Orlando told us.⠀ ⠀ “But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was. Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes. Since COVID-19 many more newborn lives are at risk because of the increased lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases. As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathize with struggling parents now more than ever.⠀ ⠀ “As UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, we know UNICEF is there, on the ground, doing whatever it takes to make sure every expecting mother has access to a trained health worker and access to quality healthcare. In celebration of the heart we know our daughter already has, we have set up a donation page to celebrate DDB’s arrival. By supporting them, you are supporting a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child. We hope your ♥️ can bloom with generosity.⠀ ⠀ Gratefully-⠀ ⠀ Katy & Orlando.”⠀ ⠀ Please tap the link in our bio to support the most precious gift: a healthy child.
