LISTEN: chasing luma Discovers Himself On New Single “motions”

A once gold-certified dance music producer, Luke MacDonald has since rediscovered the true meaning of his calling. Although successful in his efforts in electronic music, the multi-talented artist felt a deep disconnect between his personal mantra and the music that blossomed from its soil. Following this lengthy bout of writer’s block and artistic turmoil, Luke returned to a fundamental place of childlike passion to renew his vows to songwriting while keeping the limitless wonders of dance music in his peripheral; thus leading to his magnum opus – chasing luma.

“In the process of trying to forget everything I once knew about creating music and starting from scratch, I was met with a lot of frustration and roadblocks. At the time of writing this song, I was not in a particularly healthy headspace. So I dealt with that in one of the only ways I knew how to – which was to plug my guitar into an amp, set up a microphone on a stand, and to belt out my frustrations — and just hoping something good would come out of me. luckily on that day, ‘motions’ basically wrote itself. I remember just screaming the first words of the chorus “i’ll come back, yeah” almost through tears. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment!

‘motions’ has a bit of a claustrophobic feeling to it, feeling trapped or stuck in a place. but I think this song is the sound of having hope to break through, and addressing what’s holding you back from being where you want to be.” – chasing luma

Balancing the energy of modern electronic music with the wistful nostalgia of contemporary indie music, chasing luma evokes emotion in equal parts through both story-telling and sonic excellence. After making his presence known with his debut single, chasing luma delivers a poignant follow-up to its predecessor. “motions” is a punchy alternative-pop delight with wavy synth passages tied together with chasing luma’s warm, familiar vocals.
