Remix Radar January: Oliver Heldens, Disclosure, Camelphat + More

Remix Radar is back with monthly updates of the best remixes. Kicking off 2021, we look through January to the remixes that caught our ears – from Oliver Heldens to Redfield, be sure to dive in below!

Above & Beyond feat. Richard Bedford – Thing Called Love (Oliver Heldens Remix)

Oliver Heldens has injected crazy energy into an absolute classic from Above & Beyond. Typically, classic dance tracks such as ‘Thing Called Love’ should be left alone and not remixed, as it’s hard to beat the original, however Heldens has come pretty close! First played in Oliver Heldens’ livestream shows, fans immediately saw the quality and needed an official release. It seems to be that Above & Beyond are releasing new remixes from fellow acts of their older releases and Oliver Heldens was recruited for his take on ‘Thing Called Love’. Heldens has been pushing his more techno orientated sound through his HI-LO alias, however it’s felt in this remix as he blends hard hitting techno with uplifting trance sounds.

Camelphat feat. LOWES – Easier (Sub Focus Remix)

Sub Focus has potentially one upped an already 10/10 song from Camelphat and LOWES. Being a stand out in their debut album, Camelphat and LOWES’ ‘Easier’ was on repeat for weeks after its release. Now, Sub Focus brings his drum n bass flair to it, keeping the majority of the original alive, but incorporating a fresh and energetic beat. The feel good remix is the ultimate anthem for fans of all parties involved and certainly kicked off 2021 well for Sub Focus.

Jessie Ware – Running (Disclosure 2021 VIP Remix)

Originally remixed by the duo in 2012, Disclosure’s ‘Running’ remix was a fan favourite. Disclosure always had their VIP mix for their sets, with fans frequently demanding it. Finally in 2021 their wish was granted. The new version is a perfect example of a VIP remix, with a mix up in the melody that, whilst isn’t a good as the original remix, provides an optional/additional choice for fans.

London Grammar – Lose Your Head (Camelphat Remix)

Hot off their debut album, Camelphat turn their attention to London Grammar’s ‘Lose Your Head’. Utilising their incredible progressive house efforts, they fuse the already amazing vocal with a brand new production. With amazing melodies, a killer vocal and an all round impressive production, what’s not to love about this remix?

B15 Project feat. Crissy D & Lady G – Girls Like Us (D.O.D Remix)

After the unreal tune that was D.O.D’s ‘Moments’, D.O.D remixes the 2000 classic ‘Girls Like Us’. Landing on Armada, D.O.D presents his uplifting piano house that structurally works perfectly with the original. With the use of vocal chops, D.O.D produces the perfect new mix for 2021. Listening back now, D.O.D reminds us just why the original was a top 10.

Laidback Luke feat. Ally Brooke – Dance It Off (Thomas Nan Remix)

Thomas Nan, after a handful of Mixmash releases was picked for a Laidback Luke remix. Thomas showcases his bouncy house style with the production, bringing heaps of energy and is certainly the highlight from the remixes. Putting the vocals over the drop, Thomas brings a unique feel that is not commonly achieved. If you weren’t already watching Thomas’ career, you should be after this remix.

Apashe feat. Geoffroy – Distance (Volac Remix)

Volac brings a unique and impressive new mix to one of the stand outs in Apashe’s recent Renaissance album; ‘Distance’. Volac’s production emits a punchy house sound that is really cool, but the stand out is clearly the amazing vocal cuts that Volac arranges throughout the track. The vocal cuts are a really great addition to the remix, easily leapfrogging the other remixes to take the top spot on the package.

Gabriel & Dresden – Luna (Entel Remix)

Relatively unknown artist Entel takes his stab at Gabriel & Dresden’s ‘Luna’, a part of the remix pack for their Remedy album. Entel brings a minimal driving trance sound to the track, focusing on the incredible melodies. Entel’s remix is very likely to be the best on the 16 remix package – with names such as Ilan Bluestone, Maor Levi, Myon and OCULA involved, that is quite the feat.

Anabel Englund x MK – Underwater (Redfield Remix)

Rising house star Redfield brings a dope rework to Anabel Englund and MK’s ‘Underwater’. Redfield opts for the quality over quantity style of releasing, with his small discography all stellar productions, including this new remix.

Armin van Buuren feat. Duncan Laurence – Feel Something (Tom Staar Remix)

Tom Staar brings a deep and dark progressive feel to Armin van Buuren’s latest commercial record with Duncan Laurence ‘Feel Something’. Tom Staar brings the energy, creating a mix that even Armin would rather play out. He highlights the vocals, as they should be, over a rolling techno inspired production that is sure to get you moving.
