Review: Mochakk at Brooklyn Army Terminal

Mochakk brought a whopping 3 hour set to Brooklyn Army Terminal in New York and it was the best set I’ve seen of his to date. I was unsure of what to expect from Mochakk, as historically his sets have been hit or miss for me- but this one blew me away. In the 3 hours he was given, he took the crowd on an unforgettable journey.

He started off by getting the crowd into a groove with a minimal vibe that featured elements on Brazilian funk. As the sun set, the vibes only got darker. What started off as a minimal dance party turned into some UK garage, and later became a full blown tech house set. The set flowed so well despite being all over the place as far as sounds go. Hearing ‘One More Time’ by Daft Punk at the end of the set was something special. If I didn’t understand the Mochakk hype before, I certainly get it now.

As for the venue, Brooklyn Army Terminal has potential, but needs some fine tuning. For starters, this show was 18+, bringing in a very young crowd of many that wasn’t even sure of who was playing. Additionally, with the show being on the water, the sound was spotty and could be heard better in some areas more than others.

Mochakk’s tour is heading to Europe, with shows in Spain throughout the month of July. This includes a highly anticipated Ibiza residency. I highly recommend catching any extended set that he plays when he’s back in the US.
