Ophelia Records founder and electronic music visionary Seven Lions has today released his new album, Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars. Described as a deeply personal body of work, the album marks a return to the inspirations that shaped the producer’s earliest sound while venturing into new creative territory.
Ahead of the release, Seven Lions shared three singles that showcased the project’s sonic range. ‘By the Light of the Moon’ reunited him with Estonian singer Kerli for the first time since 2014, delivering an ethereal and emotionally charged landscape. He followed this with ‘So Far Away’ featuring Lilly Ahlberg, his first drum & bass track, and ‘Cold as Snow’ with HALIENE, a piece inspired by obscure metal influences that evolved into one of his saddest works.
“The name came from me going back to my roots – books, fantasy, metal,” Jeff Montalvo a.k.a Seven Lions says. “A lot of my favorite metal tracks have these mystical, visually evocative names. I wanted something that felt old-school Seven Lions, something that sparks imagery the moment you read it.” That sense of worldbuilding threads through the entire record, which he describes as “handcrafted and intentional – something that transports you. Immense, overwhelming, and capable of pulling you into another world.”
The full album opens with its breakbeat-driven title track before moving into the big-room sound of ‘Breaking Me’ and the euphoric heights of ‘Delusional’ featuring No/Me. The tracklist also features the heavy drum and bass cut ‘From Beyond’ and a second collaboration with Kerli titled ‘Thrice Woven’. Longtime collaborator Fiora closes the journey with the intimate finale ‘Breathe It Out Slowly’.
To Seven Lions, the album represents a reclamation of purpose and identity in a chaotic landscape. “This album is about feeling increasingly out of place in the current landscape… there’s just so much noise,” he explains. “I wanted to turn away from all that and reconnect with what originally made me fall in love with making music.” He adds, “To me, it’s a journey back to my roots – all the inspirations, all the handcrafted art, all the heart and soul from me, the vocalists, and every visual artist involved. In a world full of AI and shortcuts, this album was about sitting down and creating something meaningful.”
This release signals a new chapter for Seven Lions, honouring the melodic bass identity he has cultivated since his breakout in 2012. With over a billion streams and a history of selling out major venues like Red Rocks and the Tacoma Dome, he continues to push musical boundaries. Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars is out now on Ophelia Records.
