Skrillex Drops ‘TOO BIZARRE’ Single/Video With Swae Lee and Siiickbrain Days After ‘Butterflies’

Doing fast reveals seems to be a repeating feature for Skrillex this year. In May 2021, the trendy artist had every post deleted off his Instagram and began uploading announcements thereafter. On May 10th, he then released a new track alongside Starrah and Four Tet, titled “Butterflies,” the first music seen from him since 2019. Coming as no surprise, the moment grabbed the world’s attention and got the internet buzzing. On May 13th, Skrillex posted via Instagram a brief teaser sharing a video of Swae Lee, Siiickbrain, and himself with the caption:

“TOO BIZARRE with @swaelee @siiickbrain 9AM Pacific tomorrow”

“TOO BIZARRE,” showcases the punk side of Skrillex paired with the Gen Z alt-pop aesthetics – things get dark here. Set in a grungy basement, the video depicts the collaborators as members of a band as a show it taking place. Mixed in is moments of an abstract nature, such as Siiickbrain signing into industrial-grade lamp instead of a microphone and flashes of performers playing upside down. With very little electronic music, if any, built in here, this wouldn’t be the first time Skrillex released a collaboration that flipped expectations set for him. In totality, the song is great with Swae Lee killing it with a pop-soul topline, Siiickbrain coming in with blood-curling screams, and Skrillex laying down the beat.

Skrillex, being a iconic staple recognized from those who are dance/electronic-fans to casual music listeners, inspires millions through his efforts and dedication. It’s elating to see him more active and doing what he’s known for the most, dropping inventive music through his one-of-a-kind artist vision.

Could this be a slow-drip campaign with the last stop being a full blown album? Evidence around this very speculation seems to be growing. Fingers crossed!
