Experimental electro-pop duo slenderbodies have released their second full-length album, Komorebi today via Avant Garden Records. Oft comparisons to established acts such as Glass Animals are just, however on Komorebi, it is apparent that the guys are honing in on a sound all their own.
Taking its name from a Japanese word identifying the feeling one gets when watching light cut its way through the branches and leaves of a tree, Komorebi‘s 11 tracks indeed evoke a sense of calm; a daydream vibe flows through all the tracks for a surrealist effect. Tracks like the opener “Ruminate,” standout single “Arrival”, and the gorgeous “Moods” seem to simply float with ease, organic in nature yet twinkling with various synths. The slower ballad “Hearth” is the only entirely instrumental song on the record, and breathes a sense of peace and solemnity.
Slenderbodies aren’t afraid to have a little fun on this one though. The tracks “Belong” and closer “Away From You” are dance-pop numbers that sound music festival ready, while, “Dewdrops” is the happiest, and most uplifting the boys have ever sounded.
Altogether, Komorebi is a major accomplishment for the duo. It proves above all else that they haven’t lost their spark; slenderbodies are here to stay and carve their own niche in the music industry. Catch slenderbodies on tour and stream Komorebi now below.
