WMW Conference Highlights: RayRay Talks Gender And Advice

We were lucky enough to be joined by guest speaker and budding Taiwanese artist RayRay at the Wired Music Week conference! The conversation covered areas such as the experiences of being a female producer in today’s music industry landscape, as well as RayRay’s busy schedule and tips for up-and-coming DJs and producers.

What struggles have you experienced as a female artist in a male-dominated industry?

“To be honest I don’t really like people are judging me as a female. It’s all about the music. No matter if you’re a guy or a girl, it’s all about the music. I don’t think being a female is really important. Just be yourself.  I just focus on being myself. I think 10 years ago yeah, but now the industry doesn’t care if you’re male or female.”

How do you maintain energy throughout your busy day?

“Having a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy and not staying up too late is really important to keep going in this industry. Also working out, definitely.”

What are your plans for the future?

“I’m working on a new EP. I’m also working on including cello into my sets because I’m a cellist!”

Any wise words for up-and-coming artists?

“Be yourself. Music is always about having fun, right? Don’t think about the obstacle, think about trying to overcome them. I love challenges; challenges are the most important thing in my life.”
