[WATCH] Swedish House Mafia's Full Set in Mexico

Swedish House Mafia played their 4th show on their tour, their first after the trio of Stockholm shows in Mexico on Saturday. Thankfully some fans filmed the entire set for us to enjoy at home. Below showcases two videos, the first one is a front one view and the second is a 4K version - either are good to watch!

Unfortunately the set is quite similar if not the exact same as it was in Stockholm, we shouldn’t be complaining however - a Swedish House Mafia set is a magical thing.

In the first video, a surprise guest and fellow dance music artist can be spotted enjoying the show

BREAKING: EDC Is Evacuating Certain Stages Due To High Winds

The second day of Electric Daisy Carnival at Las Vegas Motor Speedway ran into some unfortunate issues thanks to high winds, with both Tiesto and Martin Garrix’s sets being cut short and many more being cancelled entirely. The issues began towards the end of Tiesto’s set when stage crews and screens (Pictured Below) at the kineticFIELD began announcing “Evacuate To Shelter”. At that time various sets were still ongoing including Martin Garrix on the circuitGROUNDS and NGHTMRE on cosmicMEADOW, however the winds were noticeably sending flags in one direction during Garrix’s set and shortly after, his live stream was switched off as well.

The evacuation caused significant confusion and frustration, with many attendees’ being told the entire festival was getting evacuated stage by stage so they left the venue to avoid an anticipated rush of people to be leaving. However EDC later tweeted that the venue was not being evacuated as a whole and only certain stages were closed. Many fans had already left back to their hotels at this time and vented their frustrations on social media, EDC re-assured them that if they returned they would have no issues getting back into the festival grounds.

High winds are not a new problem for the festival, the EDC Las Vegas location has been plagued weather issues a number of times due to its positioning in the desert. As a result of the cancellations, highly anticipated acts such as Kaskade and RL Grime and many more were unable to perform their scheduled sets. Currently there’s still extreme winds and there has been no official word on if this will cause issues for the festivals final day.

The Most Anticipated Acts of EDC 2019

EDC is arguably one of the most important weekends for the electronic festival scene. The top performances, witnessed by, in many cases, hundreds of thousands of people live, and more via live stream set the bar for EDM DJ sets. The massive three day festival, which takes place annually in Las Vegas, has historically been seen as a platform for top acts to unveil new styles and tease unreleased tracks. Here’s our list for the most anticipated performances this year:

Fisher

On Friday night, Australian tech house pioneer Fisher is scheduled to play from 12:00 to 1:30 AM. The artist’s track “Losing It’ was among the most played tracks of last year, and has skyrocketed his career to new heights.

Loud Luxury

The Toronto based duo’s career soared to new heights after the massive success of their 2018 hit “Body”. Since then, the pair has rocked crowds at festivals around the world. They perform at 8:15 at Kinetic Field Saturday night.

Rezz

After tweeting that she’d play multiple new tracks in her set, presumably from her upcoming EP - there’s a lot of hype for Rezz’s set! Her one hour set kicks off at 12:30 AM at Circuit Grounds.

San Holo

Over the past few years, the Dutch guitarist-producer-songwriter has built up a loyal fanbase. The chill, emotional tone of his tracks like “everything matters” and “Light” have made him a staple of the “future bass” genre. He’ll perform Kinetic Field at 11:00 on Sunday.

Tchami x Malaa

Future house founder Tchami teams up with masked DJ Malaa to bring house fans a set that’s sure to be unforgettable. The pair are set to perform at 12:15 Sunday night at Cosmic Meadow.

Party Favor

The DJ-producer is already well known for his dance floor ready hits like “Bap U” and “Booty Loose”, as well as his unique remixes for other DJ’s like Dillon Francis. The DJ, who’s increasingly become a well-known name among EDM fans, is scheduled to perform late Friday night at the Cosmic Meadow stage.

W&W

Known for their massive big room hits, W&W is sure to be a crowd favorite when they perform at Kinetic Field at 9:30 Saturday night.

Deorro

Over the past few years, Deorro has become a pioneer of the Melbourne-bounce genre. His track “Five Hours” took the world by storm when it was released in 2014. The vocal version of the track, featuring Chris Brown, has accumulated an impressive 260 million views on YouTube. He will be performing on Friday from 9:30-10:40 PM at the Kinetic Field stage.

David Guetta

David Guetta was one of the very first DJs to successfully merge the EDM and pop genres. Teaming up with a-list pop artists like Sia and Justin Bieber, he’s spent the better part of ten years crafting hit after hit. He will perform at the Kinetic Field stage Friday night from 12:00 to 1:30.

Swedish House Mafia Played Multiple New Tracks In Stockholm

Having returned in March 2018 for Ultra Music Festival, Swedish House Mafia are now officially back - kicking off the first show of their tour in Stockholm. Show 1 of 3 in Stockholm is finished and it looks like the wait was worth it!

According to videos and tracklisting, multiple unreleased Swedish House Mafia originals were played. Most notably, what sounds like a possible follow up to ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ due to it’s radio friendly nature. Potential named ‘Underneath It All‘, people have mentioned it sounds like Kristoffer Fogelmark’s vocals. This is an incredible record that surely gave everyone in attendance goosebumps. This new track can be heard at 44mins into the video. They also opened up with a hard hitting dark track which does sound like something Corey James would release.

Check out the tracklisting down below as well as the entire set. The quality is not ideal as it was streamed live via Periscope - still incredible however!

Coachella Weekend One Recap: Best Acts, Art Displays + Much More

Coachella. Undeniably one of the biggest festivals in the world where the acts are as varied as the attendees. It made me smile when I saw a couple with two young children enjoying the sunshine together and when I saw a couple of grandparents waiting in line for the gates to open on the first day. I even met a mother who had rented a house in Palm Springs with her teenage daughter, and her daughter’s friend.

That’s the beauty of music though. You don’t have to be a certain age or look a certain way to enjoy yourself. With that said, the costumes of festival goers are wonderful. From sheer lace and lit up faux fur coats to thongs and feathers (in every colour imaginable), what makes the festival experience even better is looking at all the effort people have put into their festival attire.

Coachella makes it easy for you to camp out at one stage based on what genre of music you enjoy. I met quite a few people who stayed almost the entire weekend at the Do LaB or Heineken House. However, I found myself walking 20 kilometres each day because my musical preferences are varied. (Long legs and a mean power walk really gets me places.) I also wanted to explore the art that was on display. It is very easy to focus on the music only but a huge part of Coachella is the art. Hence the name, Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival.

This is the second year that Coachella has seen Spectra. The art tower has a three year residency (with hopes for an extension, since they’ve literally laid down the foundation for it). This year was probably better than last year to enjoy the tower, as last year there was no air conditioning built in. It is now the perfect, and most colourful, place to escape the heat. When asked about his inspiration, Patrick O'Mahony, the creative director, spoke about sunrises, sunsets, and his love of being up higher for new perspective. Maybe that’s why I loved Spectra so much. I am definitely a fan of all those things. The art piece is seven stories high and gives people a different vantage point of the festival grounds.

Another interactive piece that allowed people to cool off and chill out was HP’s Antarctic Dome. This is their third year at the festival. You can read my round up of that piece here.

This year also saw the return of the gigantic astronaut, somewhat wary from his travels. (He was first seen at Coachella back in 2014.) On Sunday evening, it seems like a hippo from a different art piece crossed paths with the moving art instillation, judging by the remains of said hippo on the bottom of the astronaut’s boot.

Coachella is quite photogenic. Some of the other art features were cacti, 12 colourful towers, and of course, one of the returning favourites, the balloon chains. The path that lead up to Ariana Grande’s merch featured seven rings. Calvin Klein created a house where the decor was made for taking selfies with. The festival fully embraces our generation and our love of sharing. And attendees are eager to partake. To quote Virgil Abloh at the end of his Weekend 1 set, “This is the best generation of all time.”

In terms of music, I had a fair few clashes which resulted in having to sacrifice some acts for others. Unfortunately, a couple stages ran late, making it impossible to catch an act in the gap between two others. Nonetheless, the overall experience of Coachella is what made the weekend great. Combine art, music, making new friends, and connecting with old ones and you have a recipe for success.

Creating a list of my top three acts was no easy feat. This was EXTREMELY hard for me to decide upon. I loved every act I saw but here are my top three:

Photo: Goldenvoice

Photo: Goldenvoice

1. H.E.R. - The artist I wanted to see the most. I wasn’t in Australia when she came to tour last year so I made sure she was the number one priority at Coachella. She was the one act I was adamant to see from start to finish, purely because her music has helped me get through some shit, as I’m sure many H.E.R. fans can relate too. I lost track of how many times I cried.

Photo: Goldenvoice

Photo: Goldenvoice

2. Kid Cudi - He had otherworldly visuals. At one point, the northern lights were flashing over a purple moonscape. Then came a rising sun. A very solid set musically as well. He dedicated his last song of the night, Pursuit of Happiness, to Mac Miller and Nipsy Hussle. Halfway through the track, he stops and starts performing Steve Aoki’s remixed version of the song, and the crowd absolutely loses their shit. His performance felt like a main stage, closing out Coachella on Sunday, set.

Photo: Goldenvoice

Photo: Goldenvoice

3. Gesaffelstein - The Prince of Darkness did not disappoint. To be honest, I don’t think he ever could. A dramatic entrance and exit coupled with a costume that covered his entire top half in silver (face and hair included), black velvet pants, and shiny dress shoes. He kept the crowd dancing the entire time. His set hypnotized me.

Next year I would love to do Bothchella. There is so much to see and do at this festival. Even though I am incredibly happy with my experience this year, there are some acts that I missed out on that I would have loved to see. The weekends seem to be quite varied in terms of musical guests as well but whichever weekend you end up picking, rest assured, you will have the time of your life.

See you in the desert next year.

Ultra Music Festival: Top Moments

After the serious issues surrounding the conclusion of Day 1, things improved as the festival went on. Every set was full of energy and overall the new location was received well. If the festival takes place in the same location next year, Ultra need to take a look at their power management to ensure there is no problems on stages.

Armin Van Buuren Power Outage on ASOT Stage

Before his set was on the livestream, Armin Van Buuren encountered issues and ultimately his set was silent for a few minutes at the beginning of his set. He played a giant 3.5 hour set from 10:30-2:00 due to Eric Prydz not making it due to medical problems.

The Chainsmokers Premiere Their Collaboration with Illenium

They debuted ‘Take It Away‘ with Illenium, hopefully we see an official release soon! Listen below.

deadmau5 Experiences Issues Launching Cube 3.0

deadmau5 was hit with power issues as he introduced Cube 3.0 to the world. Fortunately, the issues were resolved quickly and occurred before he was on the live-stream.

NGHTMRE & SLANDER Bring Out SHAQ and Lil Jon

Toward the middle of their set, they brought out SHAQ and then Lil Jon for a few tracks. SHAQ left the stage and then started a mosh in the crowd! Check the video below to see for yourself!

Martin Garrix Premiers Brand New Music

Martin’s set had plenty of unreleased music, most of which we should expect out on his label STMPD soon. He also played ‘Mistaken‘, his collaboration with Matisse & Sadko. As soon as his set concluded it was released officially!

Cash Cash Throw Mixer Off Stage After Technical Issues At Ultra

After repeated technical issues at the start of their set; Cash Cash threw a malfunctioning mixer off the stage. The picture below captures it perfectly!

Dog Blood Bring Out Ty Dolla $ign to Premiere New Track

Dog Blood brought out American rapper Ty Dolla $ign to play a track that they “made just a few days ago”. This collaboration is huge and we hope to see it soon! With the amount of unreleased music played in this set, its going to be a busy few months for these two.

Mainstage Power Outage

The main stage went dark as power completely went out around 3 PM local time as Dzeko was scheduled to take the stage. Power was out for approximately 20 minutes. Not the best start for the festival, however everything went smoothly post power out. People have noted a small part of the upper right of the LED panels wasn’t working during the day time.

Tiësto Debuts Brand New Music

Tiësto played all his fan favourite releases as well as upcoming music with artists such as Justin Caruso. There was a number of unidentified productions played, with Tiësto mentioning many collaborations in his interview beforehand; we can conclude the ID’s may have been collaborations with Jonas Blue, Sikdope and others. Tiësto has some great upcoming music!

Disappointing Marshmello Set

After a killer 12 months, Marshmello closed off Day 1’s mainstage. However not everyone was loving his set, with many generic EDM songs as well as making sure to drop tracks such as ‘Losing It‘ by FISHER - people were not exactly over the moon. He played a lot of older classics by acts such as Nirvana, Guns N' Roses, The Killers and others which is good in moderation but overdone in this case. Marshmello also played plenty of rap/RNB throughout the set, take that as you will.

Overall many aspects of this set was cringy and wasn’t that ‘EDM‘. He played a terrific set in Melbourne for Ultra Australia.

KFC/Colonel Sanders Plays Mainstage

In what turned out to be a cringy PR move, KFC had someone with a Colonel Sanders helmet (deadmau5/Marshmello inspired) play one song on the mainstage. By checking the footage, you can clearly see people walking away from the stage. In a move that was meant to create buzz around KFC may have done the opposite, with many artists and fans complaining and being disappointed about the ‘performance’. They’re not wrong, both the track and the performance was not inline with a genuine artist.

Ultra Music Festival Day 2: Top Moments

After the serious issues surrounding the conclusion of Day 1, Day 2 still went ahead and it was arguably better than Day 1!

deadmau5 Experiences Issues Launching Cube 3.0

Fire Starts and Traffic Issues At Ultra Music Festival

After the fireworks to conclude Marshmello’s set and overall Friday - a fire broke out where there is shrub and palm trees. Reports are saying that is was a piece of firework that ignited the fire.

There are major issues with people getting out of the venue, with transportation backed up. We hope this fire is contained so it doesn’t spread further.

There has been an accident involving a bus on the only route out of Ultra. All shuttles had to stop - meaning attendees had to walk across the bridge based on Polices advice. This journey is near three miles. Even when they get over the bridge to downtown; ride-share services are completely broken with either super high fees or zero drivers. Some attendees have said the apps aren’t even loading.

What makes it worse is tens of thousands of people fighting for a shuttle/ferry. Some attendees have said they’ve been involved in ‘riots’ which is clearly an over-exaggeration.

Ultra Music Festival Day 1: Top Moments

With positive reactions to the new location - Ultra day one was shaping up well. After a long day, Friday has concluded. Overall, Friday had a perfect mix of music on the live-stream and at the event. With acts such as Eric Prydz & Jai Wolf unfortunately pulling out of the festival - it put a bummer on the start of the day but that was quickly forgotten with electrifying sets!

The more significant issue of the day was the traffic situation after the event, people were left stranded and had to walk. Check out this article for the whole situation.

Ultra Australia Debuts with 40,000+ Attendees
CULTR-Article-Banner.png

As the 23rd of February rolled around, the stage was set for Ultra Melbourne and Ultra Sydney. Having successfully pulled off ‘Road To Ultra’ the year before, we all knew it was going to be a bigger lineup, bigger stage and bigger theatrics - it definitely delivered on that. The weather couldn’t have been any better with blue skies and perfect temperature throughout the day and into the night. The event was well laid out and had easy access to all stages, food, bars and toilets.

The Ultra Main Stage looked incredible as expected, with headliners such as Martin Garrix, Marshmello, Illenium, Slushi, Will Sparks and The Chainsmokers (alongside Matt Maguire on drums) who closed out the event. The duo left the fans wanting more, as fireworks went off and confetti rained down on the attendees.

Resistance stage didn’t disappoint either, some local acts kicked off the stage with special live sets. Then handing over to some international veterans such as Joris Voorn and also an exceptional Nicole Moudaber B2B Dubfire set. Finally, Adam Beyer closed off the stage with nothing but class.

Over at the UMF Radio stage saw an array of local talent, which saw some of the best Australian acts such as Tigerlily, Mashd N Kutcher, Joel Fletcher and Tyron Hapi just to name a few.

Overall the event went very smoothly, with a good police and medical presence. The staff were very comforting for patrons with complimentary water stations and sunscreen. The response from the 40,000+ attendee was everything but negative. With a 2020 iteration locked in, we cannot wait to experience another magical festival day.

Ultra Australia Unveils Set Times
Ultra Australia Tickets On Sale Now

Ultra Australia is just about to commence in just under two weeks with lineups and stages confirmed for the event. But all ravers are keen to see what the set times will look like.

With headliners such as Martin Garrix, The Chainsmokers and Marshmellow all sharing the MainStage, its always hard to pick the closing act. But for both Melbourne and Sydney shows The Chainsmokers are set to close both shows out and Adam Beyer to do so also on the Resistance stage. Both shows are also bringing out a lot of local acts for the UMF Radio stage and even throwing some of Australias bigger names out on to the MainStage such as Will Sparks and Tigerlily.

Four New Swedish House Mafia Shows Confirmed
Annotation 2019-01-18 161647.jpg

Less than a fortnight ago, Swedish House Mafia’s website code revealed an event in Switzerland. Now Ultra is teasing SHM at Ultra Korea and Ultra Europe. On their respective websites, the iconic three dot logo flashes on screen before the full website loads. After reuniting at Ultra Miami in 2018, there is no doubt that Ultra want them to perform at their worldwide events. As their first stop on their tour is their home town of Stockholm, it’s highly unlikely they’ll be shows before that date. Therefore, it’s likely any major Ultra after their Stockholm show could have the Swedes on the lineup.

The group also confirmed an Ibiza show, posting the below image on their socials. They will be playing the White Isle on July 26th. Polish festival ‘Open’er‘ just announced Swedish House Mafia as headliners for their 2019 event. SHM are playing Open’er on Saturday 6th of July. This as well as the Ultra events have not yet been added to their official website.

The addition of these three shows bring the total to 14 shows confirmed on their return tour. This will not be the end of announcements, more shows will be coming soon.
