Los Angeles

California

The mad thing is I wasn’t originally the biggest fan of LA but I’ve fallen in love with it more and more over the years. The restaurants are incredible and if you’re lucky & get an offer to party at someone’s house in the hills, then take it!!

Ibiza

Spain

It’s always a No.1 go to place for me to party with my friends during the summer. Not only is the nightlife amazing but Old Town is a real mix of old & new with a chilled atmosphere and beautiful restaurants.

Barbados

Carribbean

Barbados has a special place in my heart: I went there as a kid and love the beaches & crystal clear water. Waking up in the morning and finding yourself surrounded by red crabs and swiminning with the turtles is a memory I’ll never forget.

Ferry Corsten Releases The Latest UNITY Collaboration with BT on ‘1997’

0

Ferry Corsten is back with his latest ‘Unity’ collaboration, after releasing the last one with Ilan Bluestone back in December – Ferry has teamed up with BT for a special collaboration in ‘1997‘.

Ferry Corsten has been busy with solo music in the first half of 2019, releasing ‘Freefall‘ – which feels like a more commercially viable release. He also returned to his Gouryella alias with ‘Surga‘.

Ferry Corsten has brought in another big name into the Unity project, with the legend that is BT. After remixing BT’s track ‘Suddenly’ in 2010, the pair are familiar with each other’s prowess in the studio, and that united vision is showcased in abundance. The team-up sees both artists strengths utilised to their best potential to create a track that is greater than the sum of its parts. As it should, the production leans heavily on the killer uplifting melody – which is a prominent throughout the entire track. The mix of each artist’s styles is present and concludes in an epic collaboration.

Ferry launched the UNITY project in 2018 with his collaboration alongside Paul Oakenfold titled ‘A Slice Of Heaven’, and continued working with artists within the Trance community throughout the year, such as DIM3NSION, Jordan Suckley, Saad Ayub and Ilan Bluestone, and after the success of 2018 has more releases in store after making his first donation to project partner, VH1’s Save The Music Foundation, an organisation launched to reinstate music programs in public schools, which to date has raised over $53 million and helped over 2,100 public schools.

Remix Radar 037: Featuring Sultan + Shepard, Yotto, and Tiesto

0

We’re back! I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day and spent it with a special someone. We were also blessed with a new Tame Impala album, which was leaked online previously. I’ve listened to it a few times already and have discovered new and interesting sounds each time. It’s a great record and I suggest everyone gives it at least a listen. In other news, we have a great Remix Radar for you. I have quite a few tracks in this edition that I love and will surely play quite often. The big boys we feature this week are Sultan + Shepard, Yotto, and Tiesto. Enjoy!

Lustral – Everytime (Sultan + Shepard Remix)

British electronic legends, Lustral, released “Everytime” over two decades ago where it became a club hit. Over the years they’ve released a few remixes of the record, but we just got a new one. The newest comes from Sultan + Shepard who spin a lush progressive remix that sends listeners on a synth-y wave.

Joris Voorn – Antigone (Yotto Remix)

The second remix for Joris Voorn’s \\\\ comes from the Finnish mastermind, Yotto. The “Antigone” remix is breathtaking and is truly a remarkable piece of music and rivals the original in emotional connectivity.

Halsey – You should be sad (Tiesto Remix)

Not going to lie this is included because of the star power on the record. Halsey’s smash country-pop single gets the Tiesto remix treatment to continue the promotional campaign.

John K. – if we never met (Sigala Remix)

A gooey melodic remix from Sigala. It’s full of warm and happy textures that melt together to form a playful sound. It works really well as a chill, groovy commercial track.

Casper Cole Ft. Elderbrook – I Want It All (Route 94 Remix)

“I Want It All” has been making quite a few waves. What better way to continue the party than dropping a Route 94 remix. This version is best described as a refined house boogie.

Robosonic & EPMD – For The People (Sonny Fodera Remix)

There are certain tracks that ooze coolness from the click of play. This is one of those tracks.

Kidnap Ft. Leo Stannard – Moments (Ben Böhmer & Nils Hoffmann Remix)

An absolutely stunning remix of “Moments”. It’s so wonderfully constructed it elicits a strong emotional response similar to the first time I heard the original Kidnap version. Great job, Ben Böhmer and Nils Hoffmann.

Armin van Buuren vs. Tempo Giusto – Mr. Navigator (Sevenn Remix)

Typically, I try to avoid featuring remixes of the same track, but when I clicked play on Sevenn’s remix…IT HAD TO BE INCLUDED. Sevenn brings puncturing energy to Mr. Navigator that sends shockwaves through the body.

Georgia – Never Let You Go (Prospa Remix)

Whoever is behind the A&R job for Georgia’s “Never Let You Go” remix pack deserves a pat on the back and a pay raise. Excellent sounds all around. This week’s version is a soaring DnB version from Prospa.

Kraak & Smaak Ft. Satchmode – Don’t Want This to Be Over (Jean Tonique Remix)

The most recent Kraak & Smaak song gets a psychedelic remix from Jean Tonique. It’s such an intoxicating grooviness that can’t help, but bleed into listeners and send them careening through each lick of sound.

Catching Flies – Kite Hill Theme (Freddie Joachim Remix)

Freddie Joachim creates a magical remix of “Kite Hill Theme”. The Catching Flies original transforms from a slow, rumbling, cinematic experimental tune to a mesmerizing blend of electronic, jazz, and funk. Freddie completely flips this into something that radiates warmth.

TCTS Ft. Maya B – Not Ready For Love (Zac Samuel Remix)

Zac Samuel adds an enchanting piano line and some sticky textures to TCTS’s “Not Ready For Love” to bring a new version to life. This one will get stuck in your head and you’ll be singing the chorus for days to come.

Sikdope – Follow (ATRIP Remix)

ATRIP takes a fierce approach on his remix of Sikdope’s “Follow”. The low growl of bass hits just right and with mind-melting effect.

ONE FROM THE VAULT

Mercury Rev – Senses On Fire (James Holden Remix)

All the way from 2008 comes the inventive James Holden remix of “Senses On Fire” from Mercury Rev. James warps the track into a nearly 10-minute long tune that bumbles and pops with distorted growls, sharp synths, and entrancing energy. It will transfix the mind as listeners embrace the sonic journey.

Becky Hill Drops Fantastic LP, ‘Get To Know’

0

If you’ve been an avid fan of EDM for even just a short while, I’m sure you’ve heard Becky Hill’s name pop up somewhere or the other. She’s been the vocalist responsible for some of the biggest hits over the past few years in the genre of house music (among others). She’s compiled all of those and a few new into a new LP, aptly titled ‘Get To Know’, for all those of you who haven’t heard the entirety of her charming discography. A thirteen-track collection, Get To Know is full of groovy beats from house to DnB to dance pop.

Although each tune is as fun and danceable as the next one, a few singles from the already-outstanding album do stand out further. Her most recent feature on MEDUZA’s ‘Lose Control’ is a smooth-as-silk house tune, with some incredibly deep, pounding bass. Becky Hill is responsible for the entire melodic appeal on that one, and a single listen should testify to her influence in the track.

Before this came the Sigala collaboration, ‘Wish You Well’, in which she sings her heart out at full volume, dominating the track through her unmissable voice. Of course, there’s no forgetting her Oliver Heldens’ collab, ‘Gecko (Overdrive)’, which has since been cemented as one of the biggest tracks in deep house of all time.

Among the more experimental tracks in this cohesive body of work are ‘Afterglow’ with Wilkinson (a legendary DnB production which skyrocketed into mainstream listening audiences) and ‘False Alarm’ with Matoma (among the few tracks responsible for his meteoric rise to success in 2017).

With such a broad range of offerings centred around Becky Hill’s vocal prowess and charm, it’s clear that you’ll find something to cater to your taste within this album, a must-listen.

Remix Radar 010: Featuring Don Diablo, Benny Benassi, and MK

Welcome back to Remix Radar! We took a short vacation to re-energize and to celebrate the American Independence Day. That means to make up for being AWOL we will cover the past two weeks of remixes. Without further adieu, Remix Radar 010!

Zara Larsson – All the Time (Don Diablo)

To kick things off this week, I bring forth a bounce-y future house remix from Don Diablo. The remix is exactly what you expect and want from Don, a perfect dose of energy to start the day.

Sigala & Becky Hill – Wish You Well (Benny Benassi Remix)

At the spritely age of 51, Benny Benassi is still crushing the dance world.  He spins a delicious house remix of Sigala and Becky Hill’s “Wish You Well”,  proving that age is only a number and that it won’t stop Benny from continue being a trailblazer.

Mark Ronson Ft. Camila Cabello – Find U Again (MK Remix)

MK highlights why  he’s been a leading purveyor of house music, since the 90s with his remix of “Find U Again”. The 46 year-old spins the Mark Ronson and Camila Cabello hit into a dazzling, fresh house mix that is better than the original.

MK – Body 2 Body (Chris Lake Remix)

MK makes another appearance, but this time as the muse to the genius that is Chris Lake. Mr. Lake provides the epilogue to MK’s “Body 2 Body” remix pack and it’s a groovy tech house spin, which will be a staple of the Ibiza summer.

Kiiara – Open My Mouth (Michael Calfan Remix)

Michael Calfan douses “Open My Mouth” with a piano melody to make it his own bop. The overall vibe feels very Michael Calfan, while providing a fresh groove.

Calfan also released a remix for Labrinth’s “Miracle”. It’s another great track and I highly recommend a listen.

KREAM & Eden Prince Ft. Louisa – Ain’t Thinkin Bout You (KC Lights Remix)

Another week, another appearance by KC Lights. The Scottish producer/DJ has been absolutely crushing it with his remixes of MK and his recent, mind-melting single, “Sol“. He continues his brilliance with a funky house remix of KREAM and Eden Prince’s “Ain’t Thinkin Bout You”. It’s everything you would want to hear while deep in a club.

Jess Glynne & Jax Jones – One Touch (Todd Edwards Remix)

The legend, Todd Edwards, constructs a sizzling remix of “One Touch”. Edwards stays true to his style and proves his legendary status in UK Garage, while making “One Touch” his own.

Catz ‘n Dogz Ft. ZENSOFLY & Maxville – Wave (Justin Martin Remix)

Justin Martin constructs a whimsical tech house remix of “Wave” by Catz ‘n Dogz. Justin adds a layer of thick bass and oscillating elements layered within the sound design to truly make something exciting. It’s clear to see Justin’s production wizardry.

Africanism with Martin Solveig – Edony (Nico De Andrea Remix)

My favorite remix of the week, Nico De Andrea intoxicates listeners with his remix of “Edony” by the collaborative project, Africanism. It exudes Middle Eastern vibes and tribal beats, creating something that feels classic, yet timeless. Overall, it’s a jam!  The Ferdy remix is also really cool.

Dom Dolla – Take It (Billy Kenny Remix)

The Don of This Ain’t Bristol provides the closing chapter of Dom Dolla’s “Take It” Remix Pack. The result is an absolute monster of a tune that tickles listeners with pleasure.

Yolanda Be Cool – Space Jam (Noizu Remix)

Noizu sends people to space with his tech-house remix of Yolanda Be cool’s cover of “Space Jam”. This one is perfect for an acid-infused Space Jam party as it will only enhance the trip.

graves Ft. ZEKE BEATS – Intro (UKato Remix)

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen an intro track receive a remix. Well, graves thought it was a brilliant idea and entrusted UKato to provide the sauce. Overall, UKato dazzles with his DnB remix.

ZDS & Will Clarke – The Beat (Two Tails Remix)

Two Tails have been making their ascent via Dirty Bird Records and it continues with the blissful tech-house remix of “The Beat”. The Minnesotan duo construct a savory beat that pairs well with piña coladas and pool parties.

Ben Pearce Ft. Tayla – Fireproof (Ten Ven Remix)

I really enjoy the vibe Ten Ven constructs out of “Fireproof”. It’s a bit sexier and sultrier than the original with sizzling snares and a really interesting vocal chop. I also think Tayla’s vocals work even better amongst Ten Van’s dark synth progression.

Diplo Ft. Tove Lo – Win Win (Yotto Remix)

I never expected to hear a Diplo and Tove Lo track receive a space-y makeover. Thankfully Yotto was entrusted. The remix is a deep dive into the ethereal plane that sends listeners floating through a world of shivering synths and glittering lights.

ONE FROM THE VAULT

Boys Noize – Midnight (Boys Noize & Mr. Oizo Handbraekes Remix)

To close this week, I bring forth the dark and twisted Handbrakes Remix by Mr. Oizo and Boys Noize. The pair flip “Midnight’ into something even more startling and terrifying than the original. This is a perfect shot of energy to continue the grind to the sunrise.

The production showcases each of the English artists talents, with a serious catchy instrumental by Sigala and yet another set of quality vocals from Becky Hill.
