Chris LaRocca Unveils Debut EP on Red Bull Records/Wonderchild

Toronto-based producer, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Chris LaRocca has released his four-track EP, “perhaps!” on Red Bull Records/Wonderchild. The EP ranges from pop-dripped anthems like “left out” to shimmering acoustic numbers like “linger” that evoke a multitude of emotions and energies that bring about the perfect EP. Each song features friends of LaRocca’s in pockets of harmonies or credited in the closing notes which highlight a communal vibe that earmarks the sound and extends outward to the listener.

Chris LaRocca has made a name for himself behind the scenes writing and producing for the likes Rihanna, Drake, SZA, Jay-Z, and Kali Uchis, with the latter record linking him with WondaGurl. The multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated producer WondaGurl saw his undeniable talent and signed him as the second artist to her label, Wonderchild, in partnership with Red Bull Records.

The official music video for the EP’s single, “life of the party,” takes viewers into the abstract world of LaRocca, transforming a retirement home into a wild fever dream. It also is irresistibly a “party” to the ears and is a track that shouldn’t be slept on. It’s undeniably catchy and oozes a coolness that will reach any audience — even those that claim to not like pop — highlighting LaRoca’s abilities.

“Life of the party” is a bird’s eye view on introversion, according to LaRocca. The song was written during a mandatory 2-week quarantine after returning to Toronto from Los Angeles where he met and worked with WondaGurl for the first time. The juxtaposition between wanting to make a good impression and feel like the life of the party while struggling with wanting to be back in the comfort of his own company inspired the song.

With another EP to come later this summer, “perhaps!” is a refreshing taste on pop music that is undeniably enjoyable and will be on repeat this summer. As the year continues, he’s undeniably one to watch this year with big expectations on the next EP.
