Gaming and music have long gone hand in hand, and now one of the biggest games of the moment has joined forces with Spotify for an all-new audio experience. Spotify today announced the exclusive new partnership with League of Legends developer Riot Games which will result in new music, podcasts and playlists inspired by the gaming community. The collaboration is the first global paid sponsorship deal by Spotify.
League of Legends has long been a powerhouse in the realm of gaming music, it has been producing its own music for years around its video game franchise and acts as both the label and distributor for most of its own soundtracks. Among previous releases the company has worked with Becky G, DUCKWRTH, Madison Beer, (G)I-DLE, Cailin Russo, SOYEON, 2WEI and Edda Hayes.
Speaking on the new partnership, Spotify wrote “We’re excited to announce our partnership with Riot Games as the official audio-streaming partner for League of Legends”. Spotify’s global head consumer and product marketing June Sauvaget also told Variety, “Gamers are soundtracking their experiences with audio tracks, There’s overlap between [gaming and music] audiences, but in the Venn diagram there’s white space on both sides.”
