South Korean girl supergroup BLACKPINK have today released their debut studio album which is somewhat uncreatively titled ‘THE ALBUM’. It follows a strong year with global success on the albums two pre-release singles, ‘How You Like That’ and ‘Ice Cream’ which have collected hundreds of millions of streams. ‘The Album’ only runs 8 tracks and surprisingly it’s thin on features introducing only one new one from Cardi B, however with their own star power it could be said they don’t need to lean on features.

The most recent single brought the albums biggest collaboration, Selena Gomez on ‘Ice Cream’ which also includes uncredited contributions from pop-princess Ariana Grande and Victoria Monét. The K-Pop group’s immense fan base none the less helped the group smash a record. Yesterday before release, their management YG revealed that BLACKPINK’s “THE ALBUM” had exceeded 1 million pre-orders. This is the highest number of stock pre-orders ever recorded for a K-pop girl group, which also makes BLACKPINK the first Korean girl group to surpass 1 million stock pre-orders.

The album’s lead track on release is ‘Lovesick Girls’ which is paired with a new music video. It’s a guitair laden production that crosses into the realm of electronic music, it exudes production remincist of Avicii and features both English and Korean lyrics.
