Legendary singer Bonnie Tyler is lending both her voice and her heart to the upcoming documentary HOMELESS, a powerful new film shining a light on the global homelessness crisis. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Valerio Zanoli, the documentary is currently on most major platforms.
At the emotional center of the film is Tyler’s new original song, “One World One Home.” Written specifically for the documentary, the track is performed in collaboration with the Dallas Street Choir, a group whose members include individuals who have experienced homelessness. Tyler’s unmistakable voice brings emotional depth to the song, reinforcing the film’s message of unity, compassion, and dignity.
Filmed primarily in Las Vegas, the documentary highlights the striking contrast between the city’s world-famous luxury resorts and the reality faced by many people living without stable housing. Through deeply personal stories and conversations with advocates and experts, the film explores the causes and human impact of homelessness while challenging the stereotypes that often surround it.
For Tyler, the subject is not simply a distant social issue. Reflecting on her life and career, she spoke about how fortunate she feels to have strong personal support, and how that perspective shapes her empathy for those facing housing insecurity.
“I truly feel blessed to have such a wonderful family and so many amazing friends,” Tyler says. “Their love and support mean the world to me, and I treasure every moment I get to share with them. One thing I hope I never have to face is loneliness…and even more so, homelessness.”
Over decades of touring and performing around the world, Tyler explains that she has witnessed both the beauty of different cultures and the growing challenges faced by vulnerable communities.
“Through my travels, I’ve had the privilege of performing around the world, meeting incredible people from every walk of life, and visiting some of the most beautiful cities on earth, the singer says. “Yet alongside all that beauty, I’ve also seen a growing number of people without a home. Many of them once had families, careers, and stability, but life took an unexpected turn.”
Tyler’s reflections echo the film’s central message, that homelessness is often the result of circumstances beyond an individual’s control, and that compassion is essential in addressing the issue.
“It’s heartbreaking to witness, but it also reminds me how fragile life can be, and how important compassion is,” Tyler says. “The gap between those who have so much and those who have so little feels wider than ever. Too often, the most vulnerable among us are spoken of as problems to be hidden rather than people to be helped,” Tyler adds.
Early screenings of HOMELESS have already drawn praise from advocates and international organizations. The film premiered at the World Urban Forum, organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, where it was highlighted as an important tool for raising awareness of the urgent need for safe and affordable housing worldwide.
Ultimately, Tyler hopes the film and its message will inspire audiences to respond with empathy and action. “Even the smallest act of compassion can make a difference,” she says, “and together those small acts can build a brighter, kinder world.”
