Review: Justice Deliver a Masterclass in Electronic Theatre

Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, aka Justice, closed off their Hyperdrama tour this weekend in Australia. The talented duo took to the stage alongside very special guests to perform their latest set, showcasing both their new album and their classic electronic anthems. Visiting Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, this was the type of show that many would fly in to see, given the band has not performed in the country since 2018.

Justice debuted their Hyperdrama show at Coachella 2024 and have toured it around the world since. Australia was treated to Ed Banger founder and label legend Busy P, who opened with a perfect exploration into French house music. Following him was Australia’s own Tame Impala (Kevin Parker), who had just come off his own US tour. Being Australian and having worked with the French duo on two album songs, he felt like the perfect support act. He delved into his record box for a DJ set, featuring some interesting but welcomed track selections.

From the lighting and production to the music, Justice delivered on every front. The show was on another level that phone videos simply could not do justice; with spectacular moving rigs, walls of light and the large iconic cross, it was visually commanding from anywhere in the venue. Amidst this technological spectacle, the duo let the music do the talking, standing as cool silhouettes and occasionally smoking a cigarette while jumping between eras of their discography. The night reached a massive high right at the end when Kevin Parker returned to the stage to perform their collaboration ‘Neverender’ live, making for a rare and awesome experience. If Justice are in town it is a moment that cannot be missed, because if you do, you may not see them again for a decade.
