If you have ever listened to RÜFÜS DU SOL you are probably familiar with the feeling of goosebumps. Their music is beautiful, it transports listeners to other worlds, and waves of emotions are sure to ensue. Prepare for sensory overload and the doubling of all the above while watching the band’s music video for ‘Underwater’.

This year, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival opened its doors a day early to media for the World Premiere of the video for ‘Underwater’. The public will be able to partake too, over the course of the festival’s two weekends. The experience takes place in an 11,000 square foot Projection Dome by HP that uses the latest technology.

Before being treated to the video, the band, along with director James Frost (who has worked with Radiohead and OK GO, to name a few past collaborations) spoke about how technology is able to enhance connection, collaboration, and creativity. This is apparent, as the project also involved digital artists Harrison Vincent, Joey Camacho, Joyce Ho, Nicolas Arnold, and Ryan Hawthorne. The panel spoke about how technology can transform and humanize music as well. For ‘Underwater’ they definitely did this. This art piece is an immersive experience that perfectly captures and creates a visual for the feel of the song.

During the experience, you will probably find yourself feeling like the creator of the universe and wondering if this is what the beginning of everything looked like. Or, you might feel like you have been transported into the insides of the creator’s brains when they came up with this concept and you are somehow privy to watching their neurons firing. However you end up feeling, you will not be disappointed.

Coachella can be overwhelming with how much music, art, food, and drink there is to experience in just a few short days. However, you will not regret taking a little time out of your weekend to go to the HP Antarctic Dome to chill out in the air conditioning and watch this video. Let yourself sink into the floor while being lost in space and time. Try to move towards the back and observe the middle of the dome for the best viewing pleasure. The 360° video will engulf you fully.

RÜFÜS DU SOL plays at the Outdoor Theatre at 8:50pm on Friday the 12th and 19th.
