Scottish producer, DJ, and singer Sam Gellaitry has officially announced his long-awaited debut album, ANYWHERE HERE IS PERFECT, slated for release on November 7 via Major Recordings / Warner Records.
The announcement is accompanied by the release of his new single, ‘CURIOUS’, featuring the distinctive vocals of Toro y Moi. The track premiered as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record with Jack Saunders and is paired with a music video directed by Dan Franco, which captures the euphoric energy of a karaoke party starring both artists.
The forthcoming twelve-track album is the culmination of years of sonic exploration documented through acclaimed EPs like Escapism and IV. It follows last month’s single, ‘START UP A RUMOUR’, which is also confirmed to be on the album’s tracklist.
Speaking about the single, Gellaitry says: “[This song] is about being curious about someone in a social setting who you’ve not met before and the playful back and forth that happens mentally. I sent CURIOUS to Toro, he sent a verse back and it was just perfect. It was so crazy to hear his voice on my stuff – it was just such a blessing to have him be part of this project. He’s one of my biggest inspirations. It fell into place very naturally, and hopefully it’s the first of many.”
Toro y Moi adds: “Sam sent me the full project and asked me to pick one [track] to sing on. The production on CURIOUS really stood out to me – it’s very forward thinking and very much in line with where my ears are. It sort of felt like this was our chance to make some music. I churned out more than enough lyrics – I wanted Sam to have enough to play around with and chop it up, just piecemeal it. To have something produced by Sam with me singing on it is cool. Sam’s got the sauce.”
Gellaitry’s profile has risen dramatically this year, largely fueled by the viral resurgence of his 2021 track ‘Assumptions’. The song surged to over 500,000 daily streams, breaking into TikTok’s Viral Top 50, the top 10 of YouTube’s Global Top Songs on Shorts, and securing the #2 spot on Shazam’s global viral charts.
Fans can catch Gellaitry live during a trio of US headline dates this October in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York, amidst his ongoing supporting DJ sets for Justice, Kaytranada, and Madeon.
