Swedish House Mafia to Throw Free Concert in Gothenburg Following Cancellation of Ullevi Night One

Following the devastating last-minute cancellation of their highly anticipated Ullevi Stadium show, Swedish House Mafia are offering a massive silver lining for fans in Gothenburg.

On Friday, heartbreak ensued for the electronic music trio and their global fanbase when the first of two huge nights at the open-air Ullevi Stadium was called off just moments before they were due on stage. Severe weather conditions and an increasing risk of thunderstorms forced organisers to prioritise the safety of the audience, artists, and crew. The stadium gig was slated to be the group’s biggest headline concert ever in their home country.

However, fans will not be leaving Gothenburg empty-handed. On Saturday 29 August, Swedish House Mafia will take over Götaplatsen for a completely free concert in the heart of the city. In collaboration with Göteborgskalaset, the city’s annual free festival, the trio will hit the main stage for a special daytime performance open to all from 13.30 to 14.30 CEST.

Götaplatsen, famously known as one of Gothenburg’s premier meeting spots, will be transformed into an epic open-air dance floor for the afternoon. Flanked by the Museum of Art, the City Theatre, and the Concert Hall, the setting offers an intimate and unique contrast to the massive arena stage they had originally planned for the weekend. No tickets are required for this performance, making it an incredible opportunity for locals and travelling fans alike to witness the iconic group up close right on the city’s doorstep.

Organised by Göteborg & Co on behalf of the City of Gothenburg, the Göteborgskalaset festival runs from 27 to 30 August across the city centre. While a severe storm may have disrupted their historic stadium plans, Swedish House Mafia’s rapid pivot ensures the music will still play on in Sweden this weekend.
