Hello A ON! How are you?

Doing pretty good!

Can you walk us through your journey into Electronic Music production? What initially inspired you to start pursuing a career as a Producer?

It all started when I was playing in bands in my mid teenage years. A friend downloaded Fruity Loops on my computer at home and showed it to me – that was a game changer. It showed me the potentially I had for music composition, even though I had zero knowledge of music theory.

What was the first piece of equipment you incorporated into your studio set up?

After working as a lift operator for a whole winter season I saved enough money to buy a laptop and an m-audio axiom 25 midi controller.

Do you have a favourite DAW?

Even though I use a lot of hardware, my go to DAW is Ableton.

How do you approach starting a new track? Do you have a particular process?

I don’t have one way, but I definitely have a sense of what energy I am looking for and then I start throwing sounds and melodies until I have something exciting going on.

In your opinion, what elements of a track help it perform well in front of an audience?

If the context is for dancefloor, I would say a catchy hook or phrase and the presence of a good groove!

Which plugins and effects are your favourites?

U-he Zebra, Synplant, many from Arturia and some effects from Waves.

Do you have any go-to production techniques that you always use when producing a track?

Not really. I go with my gut-feeling when I am producing.

What piece of equipment would you recommend to a novice producer?

Any DAW would be fine. After that, if you are able make some finished tracks in it, you can start thinking of diving into hardware. I have been using several pieces of hardware in order to make Electronic Music, but it requires a lot of patience, especially after you have discovered the infinity of DAWs.

Finally, how do you keep inspired and remain motivated?

Listening to other kinds of music when I get saturated, breaking routines, going out, seeing people, places, movies and any kind of activity that requires being outside is also helpful!

On a trajectory to reach new and exciting heights, A ON is no doubt a force to be reckoned with within Electronic Music. As he shared a glimpse into his creativity through this interview, his passion and enthusiasm for his craft appear clear; motivated and driven to keep experimenting and innovating, fans can expect even more captivating music and live performances from A ON soon. Until then, we thank A ON for his time and look forward to watching his exciting musical journey continue to unfold.
