Where It Started: Whethan

Your passion and love for music can start at any age. That’s something that hangs in curiosity for many fans. What did this person listen to when they were younger? Who influenced them?

The ‘Where It Started’ series is a platform for artists of all kinds to speak on the anthems that raised them to be who they are now.

Whethan is the young breakout artist that surfaced to the internet almost instantaneously stealing hearts all over the world. The prodigal talent is praised across the internet for his chart-topping and forward thinking releases having accumulated streams in the millions—including Dua Lipa collaboration “High” off the “Fifty Shades Freed” soundtrack, as well as “love gang” (ft. Charli XCX), “Savage” (ft. Flux Pavilion & MAX), and “Good Nights” (ft. Mascolo) which was pegged to a 42-city “Good Nights” headline tour across North America.

Where It Started: Whethan

“As you’ll see a lot of the songs that really influenced me growing up are electronic songs or have a lot of electronic elements in them.  Daft Punk was an essential here because they remain to this day one of the most influential artists in my life.  I also definitely owe a lot to Kanye West’s “Stronger” for helping me rediscover Daft Punk as a kid.  I also have some Alternative music on here because my new album takes influence from that genre.  “1901” by Phoenix is a great example of Alternative music that inspires me.  Plus my mom used to play it in the car all the time so it’s a classic for me.  But overall my musical taste growing up was pretty varied.  I was very particular about what I liked but it never really had anything to do with genre.  If I liked it, I liked it.”
