A Conversation With BADVOID: “Ghosted,” Origins, and More

BADVOID has quickly fulfilled his ambitions and more as he continues to dominate the music business in Australia and worldwide, with a passion to revolutionize electronic dance music. BADVOID is a natural when it comes to energizing a crowd with a barrage of bass-fueled tunes. Many admirers feel that all they need is a little BADVOID in their lives, and they are absolutely correct. BADVOID is unsettling the music business as he explores with drum and bass in his new track ‘GHOSTED’ featuring Wisner, kicking off festival season in the most spectacular way imaginable.

As BADVOID continues to create momentum, we managed to open up some dialogue to reflect this moment.

Why do you produce music?

I have written music since I was at a young age, producing and writing music is my best way to put my emotions out there, it drives me knowing my music can potentially relate to my audience.

Where do you feel you fit in with the current state of dance music?

I don’t fit in, I do things my own way.

Explain your origins, where did you grow up, and how do you think that influenced you musically?

I grew up in a small town in North East, England, I started off playing guitar and I was heavily influenced by rock music. I always wanted to be a ‘rockstar’ and play music live to audiences. I remember my brother was heavily into Dance Music, more underground UK rave music but it was a big influence for me to eventually pursue dance music. In 2012 I moved over to Australia with my family at the age of
11. A lot of my friends were big Skrillex fans and this eventually led me to fall in love with bass music and in due course pick up music production. My earlier heavy metal love is a big influence in my current music, I’m trying my best to bridge the gap between rock music and drum and bass.

What’s the backstory on “GHOSTED?”

We first started this song at the start of 2022, my management sent me some previous work from Wisner and I knew on the spot that we had to make a tune together. This song was made to represent everyone who feels alone and ignored.

What do you have planned for 2022?

A lot of new music is coming out this year featuring some crazy vocalists, all my unreleased music is my best work yet and I can’t wait to show everyone the Brisbane drum and bass take over. Other than that we have a few US shows that will be announced soon, including my US debut at Blaqvoid in Salt Lake City this summer.
