Jon Bernthal Returns as The Punisher in New Marvel Disney+ Special

Marvel Television has unveiled the trailer and key art for A Marvel Television Special Presentation: The Punisher: One Last Kill, confirming Jon Bernthal’s return as Frank Castle in what is shaping up to be a massive year for the character.

For the uninitiated, Marvel’s Special Presentation format is designed to tell contained, standalone stories that experiment with genre and style, without being tied to the long-form storytelling of their films and TV series. Previous entries include Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, both in 2022. One Last Kill marks only the third Special Presentation in the MCU.

Debuting May 13 exclusively on Disney+, the special sees Frank Castle searching for meaning beyond revenge, until an unexpected force pulls him back into the fight. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard), the project is co-written by Green and Bernthal himself (notably his first ever writing credit). The special is intended to receive a TV-MA rating, signalling Marvel isn’t softening the character for this one.

And this is just the start of Bernthal’s 2026 Punisher run. He filmed his scenes for One Last Kill back-to-back with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with it being important to both Bernthal and the film’s team that the Punisher feel like a continuation of the same character. Brand New Day, also starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, is set for release July 31, 2026.
