MXZI: From Faith to 1.6 Billion Streams

How a teenager who left school with nothing but belief helped shape the global Ladrão Style and turn phonk into a worldwide sound.

Today, Dominic Balog, the artist known as MXZI has surpassed 1.6 billion streams, earned multiple Billboard chart placements, and helped shape one of the most recognizable sounds in modern Phonk through what fans now call the Ladrão Style.

We spoke with MXZI about faith, risk, brotherhood, and the moments that turned belief into reality.

The First Step Toward the Dream

Long before millions of listeners discovered his records, music was already part of MXZI’s everyday life.

“I grew up playing video games like any other kid, but music was always in the background,” he says. “I’d sing randomly, rap for fun, beatbox just to fill the silence. I wasn’t trying to become an artist, it was just naturally who I was.”

At 13, he was already performing in school, learning how to command attention with nothing but his voice. Those early experiences built confidence and presence long before any streaming numbers existed.

Eventually curiosity pushed him deeper into the technical side of music. Teaching himself FL Studio, MXZI began studying the mechanics behind music production. What started as experimentation quickly became passion & by the time he reached 18, one thing was clear.

Music wasn’t optional anymore.

“Leaving school felt like risking everything for a dream I truly believed in.”

The Risk That Changed Everything

Walking away from school was the biggest gamble he had ever taken.

“It was emotional,” MXZI explains. “I was scared, but I had faith. I prayed and trusted God to guide my path even without guarantees.”

Betting on music meant stepping into the unknown. Then the momentum began.

“When I released Montagem Ladrão, it started taking off,” he says. “That’s when it felt like my prayers were being answered.” For the first time, the risk started to feel justified.

When the World Started Listening

The first major shift came with Ladrão. “That song changed everything,” MXZI says. “It felt like I wasn’t just releasing music anymore I was shaping a sound.”

The track helped introduce a more rhythmic, energetic version of Phonk that connected with a wider global audience. But the true breakout moment came with “Montagem Tomada”.

“I made that song with a dream,” he explains. “I wanted it to be global. I wanted it to be so catchy that people would remember it no matter what language they speak.”

Soon the track began spreading across countries, edits, and online communities around the world. “That’s when I realized this wasn’t small anymore,” he says.

The Billboard Breakthrough

Seeing his name appear on the Billboard charts brought everything into perspective.

“I was screaming. I was crying,” MXZI recalls. “It didn’t feel real.” Years of prayer, sacrifice, and belief rushed through him all at once. The first people he told were his family.

“Seeing how proud they were meant everything to me.”

Then there was someone else who understood the journey better than anyone. “My brother ATLXS my best friend. He was so proud. That feeling is something I’ll never forget.”

For MXZI, the milestone wasn’t about validation.“It was about making the people I love proud.”

Brotherhood With ATLXS

Meeting producer ATLXS became a major turning point in MXZI’s career..

At the time, MXZI had been experimenting with Krush Club music just for fun, while ATLXS was already deeply immersed in Phonk production.

“I remember hearing Passo Bem Solto before it went viral,” MXZI says. “I was shocked it hadn’t blown up yet. I could hear the potential immediately.”

That moment sparked a deeper creative partnership.

“When we started working together, I began to see a real vision for Phonk not just as a trend, but as something we could shape.”

Together, their sound helped push the Ladrão Style, a faster, more energetic structure that made phonk more dynamic, replayable, and globally accessible.

The Legacy He Wants to Leave

Despite billions of streams and global reach, MXZI says the most important moment wasn’t a number.

“The biggest moment was understanding that leaving school, trusting God, and believing in myself wasn’t crazy,” he says. “It was necessary.”

When asked how he hopes people remember him one day, he talks about character.

“I want to be remembered as the kindest, most humble, legendary artist who can adapt to anything in music making nothing impossible through God.”

Before finishing the conversation, he shares one final message.

“I want to thank God, my family, and my friends. Having people who support me means more than anything.”

Then he leaves advice for anyone chasing their own dream.

“If you have a dream, fight for it. Don’t build your future around something you don’t want to do forever. Do what you love.One day we won’t be here anymore. You only get one life.”

MXZI believed in his dream long before the numbers existed.
