Celebrities are as popular and prevalent as ever in pop culture today, with personalities covering the gambit of industries. Social media adds yet another level to the celebrity trend, as people with no intention of becoming famous can sometimes do so overnight.
These worlds recently collided at celebrity boxer Jake Paul’s bout with Mike Perry. At the fight, sports betting expert “Mystic” Zach Hirsch was able to meet with overnight social media star Haliey Welch, more commonly known as the “Hawk Tuah Girl.”
The Sports Betting Extraordinaire
Zach’s “mystic” moniker isn’t just a flashy title, but also a name with earned meaning. Zach is unusually talented at predicting game outcomes and runs a podcast with NFL All-Star Adam “Pacman” Jones about football and other sports. He brings a degree of expertise to sports betting and announcing rarely seen elsewhere today. “Mystic,” then, refers to Zach’s seemingly prescient ability to correctly gauge how a game will go.
This ability once again proved exceptional when Zach correctly predicted Jake Paul would win his boxing match against Mike Perry in the sixth round.
The Rising Star on Social Media
If you’ve been on any social media sites in the past few months, you’ve almost certainly heard of the “Hawk Tuah Girl,” the title given to recent influencer Haliey Welch.
Her success as an Internet sensation occurred almost overnight, as her original claim to fame comes from a video on TikTok wherein interviewers from the YouTube channel Tim & Dee TV asked her on the street what technique best pleasures men during intercourse. Her response, “You gotta give ’em that ‘hawk tuah’ and spit on that thang,” quickly made the video go viral across TikTok and Instagram, earning millions of views in a short period of time.
Recognizing the opportunity before her, Haliey partnered with a nearby apparel brand in Nashville, Tennessee, to print and sell merchandise featuring her newly famous phrase “Hawk Tuah.” After earning over $65,000 in just a few short weeks, she leaned into her stardom and became a full-time influencer on social media.
Haliey continues to enjoy her success through making appearances on talk shows and concerts, having recently met with singer Zach Bryan at his concert and former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal during his DJ set. She also had the chance to meet Zach Hirsche at Jake Paul’s fight on July 21 of this year.
The Small World of Life as an Influencer
Despite the increasingly large number of influencers and other talented individuals on social media, Zach and Hailey were able to meet by chance at Jake Paul’s match. After the encounter, Zach called himself “the real winner” for having the opportunity to meet someone who grew impressively successful in such a short amount of time.
Both individuals continue to change their communities in their own ways, with Zach co-hosting podcasts and other sports-related materials while Haliey develops her brand and shares parts of her everyday life with her growing fanbase.
