Vertical Entertainment has secured North American rights to Breed of Greed, a psychological thriller from director Ralph Hemecker (Once Upon a Time). The film premiered Friday, September 26, 2025, with a same-day release in theaters and on VOD. At its core, Breed of Greed examines privilege, legacy, and the hidden darkness beneath wealth. The Wendolyn family, once a dominant pharmaceutical dynasty, reunites after the patriarch’s death to divide his estate. Rivalries erupt, but wayward son Henry Wendolyn (Andrew Boszhardt) soon discovers a far more sinister force feeding on their greed.
Hemecker co-wrote the script with Boszhardt and Otto Eckstein, with all three also producing. Boszhardt shared: “We wanted to make a film that was topical but also timeless. Everyone loves a good downfall story, and we tried to make one that was entertaining and fun, not preachy. We could not be more excited to have Vertical as our partner.”
The cast blends veterans and rising stars: Gina Gershon (Bound, Face/Off) delivers her trademark intensity, while Chelsea Gilligan (Star-Crossed), Madison Lewis (Alexander IRL), and Adrian Enscoe (Dickinson) bring fresh energy. Boszhardt’s multi-hyphenate role as writer, producer, and actor grounds the film in both personal and supernatural stakes.
Vertical’s Senior VP of Acquisitions, Tony Piantedosi, praised Hemecker’s tonal mix: “Ralph has done a remarkable job of balancing horror thrills with a dark sense of humor rooted in modern headlines of the privileged class. We look forward to presenting the film to North American audiences.”
For today’s audiences, Breed of Greed is more than a thriller. It’s a sharp, stylish critique of wealth and power, layered with supernatural suspense. Gershon’s presence, Boszhardt’s passion, and Hemecker’s vision promise a story designed to provoke conversation long after the credits roll.
The release joins Vertical’s upcoming slate, which includes Kristin Scott Thomas’s My Mother’s Wedding (starring Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, Emily Beecham, and Freida Pinto), Ron Howard’s Eden (with Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Brühl, and Sydney Sweeney), and SXSW selection The Threesome, directed by Chad Hartigan and starring Zoey Deutch.
With its mix of dark humor, eerie tension, and cultural bite, Breed of Greed is one of fall 2025’s standout releases.
