The legendary trio Swedish House Mafia made a triumphant return to the Ultra Music Festival mainstage in Miami on Saturday night, transforming their scheduled slot into a comprehensive ‘festival within a festival’ takeover. What was originally billed as a back to back set between Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso evolved into a historic showcase featuring a handpicked lineup of collaborators and a full trio reunion with Axwell.
The curated evening served as a deep dive into the group’s two decade musical identity. The performance was not just a standard festival set but a narrative journey through house and techno, bringing together a diverse group of artists including Afrojack, Armand Van Helden, Boys Noize, Kelly Lee Owens, and MPH.
In a moment that stunned the Miami crowd, the group also welcomed Eric Prydz to the stage. This rare appearance marked a full circle moment for the Swedish artists, reuniting the original circle of friends. It served as a nod to the very beginning of their journey, as Prydz was originally part of the Swedish House Mafia collective in its earliest formative stages before the group officially solidified as a trio.
The tracklist for the night reflected this expansive vision, blending high energy festival anthems with deeper, club focused selections. The set featured several standout moments:
- Opening with ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’, the perfect intro for Ultra Miami. Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello then invited young gun MPH to the stage to play a range of his anthems, including what sounded like his own remix of SHM’s ‘Antidote’.
- Boys Noize followed, diving into his gritty industrial electronic sound. Including a remix of ‘U Ok?’ and an awesome mashup of ‘Fine Day’ and ‘Ray Of Solar’.
- Kelly Lee Owens arrived soon after, playing an ID of hers. After Kelly, AFROJACK made himself known with a couple of his tracks, including new collaboration with Lucas & Steve.
- Armand van Heldens popped up on stage to play four of his anthems, including ‘Bonkers’ – something never expected for a SHM set.
- Lastly, both Axwell and Eric Prydz joined Seb and Steve for an incredible exploration of Prydz’s sound, alongside SHM anthems. Tracks such as ‘Allein’ and ‘Pjanoo’ were played out to the thousands lucky to be in attendance, making an out-of-this-world moment for dance fans.
- Lastly, once Prydz left the decks – SHM played their iconic anthems in ‘Don’t You Worry Child’, ‘Greyhound’ and more – closing a set that was both memorable and interesting.
The full trio of Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso stood together for a closing sequence that solidified their enduring legacy at Bayfront Park. This performance marks the start of a massive year for the group, which includes a new residency at Ushuaïa Ibiza, a homecoming at Ullevi Stadium in Sweden, and a headline slot at Goldenvoice’s inaugural Head Trip festival this October.
