    Where It Started: Koven

Celebrating the launch of the Extended Edition of their Butterfly Effect album, Koven take it back to their beginnings in our Where It Started feature.

The drum and bass duo include singer and performer Katie and producer Max. With some incredible releases under their belt, the duo have been with Monstercat for their most recent album as well as several follow up projects.

Dropping nearly one year on from the original’s release, the Butterfly Effect extended edition features brand selections as well as a host of remixes from the likes of mainstay names Ilan Bluestone, Franky Nuts, Oliverse, The Prototypes and more.

Be sure to dive through the incredible Butterfly Effect album as well as the new additions HERE.

Koven explained how they tackled the Where It Started feature:

“What’s so great about working in a duo, is constantly being influenced by each other’s taste, and discovering new sounds and tracks that are actually old, but they are brand new to you. We have a really similar taste in music, although the genre’s are so varied, the feeling and emotion from the music pretty much always stays the same. Big dramatic build ups and emotional strings, lyrics you connect with, but also massive heavy tunes, that are completely mind blowing when you see it performed live. The key element is any track that moves you, that has made you stop what you are doing at one point in your life to say to yourself “wow, what is this track?”

    Massive Attack – Teardrop

I think this is such a special track for so many people, the way the intro catches your attention, and then those spine-tingling chords chime in, topped off with a totally unique and gorgeous vocal. “Love, love, is a verb, love is a doing word” – so perfect.

    Coldplay – Shiver

One of Coldplay’s greatest ever tracks, it’s so full of emotion, and builds up perfectly. Singing along at the top of your lungs to this track is therapeutic.

    The Prodigy – Breathe

If you were ever lucky enough to catch The Prodigy live, then you know the energy levels could never be beat. We could have picked several their tracks, but this one just edges it as the winner for us.

    Porter Robinson – Divinity

This track is like a journey, taking you through different feelings and emotions, it’s a very special track.

High Contrast – The Agony and the Ecstasy

High Contrast has the perfect level of euphoria in Drum & Bass, there is something so incredibly haunting about this track, the vocal especially.

Chase & Status – End Credits

Another track, that if you’ve ever caught this live, you’re super lucky. It just has that raw energy, and although it has high intensity it’s also quite melancholy.

    Sub Focus – Rock It

This track is just a dnb anthem.

Foo Fighters – Best of You

What is so gorgeous about this song, is the mood it creates in a crowd, you know those grab your friends and scream the lyrics loudly together, those ones are always so special.

    Hybrid – Finished Symphony

Another track that is a journey, some tracks require your full attention, headphones on, eyes closed, no interruptions – you know the ones!

    Chemical Brothers – Star Guitar

This just had all the elements to be a classic track that will live on forever, it’s the ultimate goal to create something this euphoric and timeless.

Radiohead – Everything in Its Right Place

The richness and warmth from the keys on this track put me in an almost trance state.
