The Korean pop industry has become a frenzy in the global media world. Its fascination has begun to peak and many people around the world are openly embracing the culture and fandoms that come with the territory. With many acts having proven they could translate their style and music into a scintillating experience that almost anybody can enjoy, I wanted to join the TWICE fandom deep in the trenches and see what exactly they have to offer. Formed under K-pop powerhouse JYP Entertainment in 2015, TWICE is one of the best-selling K-pop girl groups of all time regarding physical album sales. TWICE is a global K-Pop group that exudes confidence and flare. The characteristics rooted in its members are what make this bunch of superstars such an exciting treat to follow. Behind TWICE is a long history of storied success as they have found themselves as one of the genres most consistent and best at what they do. The group’s return to the United States has been highly anticipated after travel constraints have held them back since their 2019 run.
With the release of their third full-length album “Formula of Love: O + T = <3,” fans in the United States began to speculate whether the chances of a return could happen sooner rather than later. With their prayers answered, the group announced a 5-date spell of shows across the country as they were set to embark on their 4th world tour. I had the pleasure of joining TWICE on their Oakland date and needless to say my expectations were blown way out of proportion. The atmosphere created inside that arena was something I don’t think I could have ever imagined. Immersing the audience into a TWICELAND of their own, the coordination of production, pyro, merch, and inside jokes really left a stark impression that the attention to detail put into these shows is worth the cost of the ticket. It was Jihyo’s vocals, Dahyun’s flamboyant character, Momo’s intoxicating dance moves, and Nayeon’s unforgettable stage presence that made this a night many will never forget.
Fans came bright and early, lining up as early as 10 in the morning for the glimmer of hopes that they could obtain some of the tour exclusive merchandise. The dedication from the ONCE’s (TWICE’s fandom name) is what struck me. Everything from dance routines, song lyrics, and group formations were met with identical energy from the fanbase that helped create the electric environment that people expect from a K-Pop concert. TWICE and their fans left me completely enamored and I can only hope this isn’t the last time I get to be in their presence.
