Larry David’s New HBO Series ‘Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness’ Gets Official Clip And Release Date

Larry David revealed key details about his upcoming HBO comedy series during a talk on Friday at SXSW. Premiering on 26 June, the sketch show is titled ‘Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America’. It aims to satirise the United States in celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Directed by ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ and ‘Seinfeld’ alum Jeff Schaffer, the series consists of seven episodes. Each episode contains approximately four sketches featuring a rotating cast. Fans can expect several ‘Curb’ alumni to appear, including Jeff Garlin, J.B. Smoove and Susie Essman, who takes on the role of Susan B. Anthony.

David and Schaffer also shared an impressive list of guest stars. Bill Hader and Kathryn Hahn will portray Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln, while Jon Hamm and Sean Hayes appear as the Wright brothers. David himself will star alongside Jerry Seinfeld as Lewis and Clark. Vince Vaughn is also set to guest star, and even Barack Obama will appear opposite David in a sketch produced by his company, Higher Ground.

Similar to ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’, the show lacks a traditional script. While each sketch follows an outline, most dialogue is improvised. Schaffer described the production as ”Curb’ in costume’.

A short clip shown at SXSW featured Larry witnessing the famous ‘V-J Day in Times Square’ kiss. Inspired by the sailor, Larry grabs a random woman for a kiss, only to be called a ‘fucko’ and surrounded by an angry mob in classic David fashion.
