Manchester City Icons Celebrate Music at the MTV EMAs in Manchester

Manchester City footballers Alex Greenwood and Rúben Dias captivated audiences at the 2024 MTV European Music Awards, bringing a touch of football flair to the prestigious music event. The ceremony, held in Manchester for the first time at the new Co-op Live Arena, highlighted the city’s dual love of football and music, celebrating both local icons and international stars.

The pair were joined by Leila Ouahabi on the red carpet as the biggest names in music turned out for the annual ceremony at the Co-op Live Arena, the UK’s only music-first arena, situated just seconds away from Man City’s men’s and women’s stadiums at the famous Etihad Campus.

Artists including Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter and Billie Eilish were all nominated for awards, while Greenwood and Dias were welcomed to the stage to present the Best New award to Benson Boone.

Hosted by pop sensation Rita Ora for the third time, the event showcased memorable performances by stars including the Pet Shop Boys, TYLA, RAYE, Shawn Mendes, and Benson Boone. Liam Gallagher, legendary Manchester City fan and rock icon, was also present, celebrating his hometown’s hosting of the globally watched awards show.

The Co-op Live Arena, a groundbreaking venue with investment from City Football Group, Oak View Group, and British pop star Harry Styles, provided the perfect stage for this prestigious event. Manchester City’s strong presence highlighted its influence beyond the football field, underscoring the club’s integral role in shaping the city’s cultural landscape.

In honour of the occasion, Manchester City collaborated with MTV to produce an exclusive Man City x MTV T-shirt, blending the iconic club crest with MTV’s recognizable logo.
