Oliver Tree Drops ‘Bury Me Alive’ Music Video, From Forthcoming Album ‘Ugly Is Beautiful’

Earlier this year the enigma that is Oliver Tree was set to release his new album “Ugly Is Beautiful” – it was five years in the making and anticipation for it was at an all-time high. Yet only weeks before it’s release he revealed to fans that due to the pandemic he was instead cancelling the release and announcing his retirement. Wind forward to earlier this month and his apology song “Let Me Down” has 11 million views, even more than his hit ‘Cash Machine’.

Then as many fans had hoped, Oliver Tree ate his words and relieved fans around the world by revealing the album was officially uncancelled. Shortly after he shared the official artwork where he’s holding pink balloons surrounded by an inferno of flames in what looks like a children’s playground. He followed it with a clip of himself being held hostage (by himself) in which he finally told fans the release date for “Ugly Is Beautiful”. Now to cement that fact and shred any doubt about it, he has dropped a brand new video where he dons a ball-sack on his chin along to the tune of his newest song, “Bury Me Alive”.

The new track, which we can expect to land on streaming services soon sees Oliver Tree explore a 90’s Hip-Hop vibe. For those who are die-hard fans and know his catalogue, you might just notice lyrics from his previous song ‘Rising Phoenix’ contained in it. As we mentioned, the new track also comes paired with yet another twisted, mind-bending music video. In the description of the new video where he wears an unusual facial accessory, he tells fans it “only cost $6 to make”. The new album is scheduled for release in just a few weeks on June 12th via Atlantic records but is now available to pre-order.

The sudden cancellation announcement back in March was met with sadness and disappointment, in a GENIUS interview last month he revealed that over 150,000 followers dropped off his Instagram in the wake. Inspired by the disappointment of his fans he hit the studio with frequent collaborator Wethan to pen “Let Me Down”, written as an apology for cancelling his album.

Oliver Tree said back in March of the album cancellation and release of “Let me Down”, “I wrote this song the day after I cancelled my album due to coronavirus. Even though it was completely out of my control, I felt like I let a lot of people down. So I made you guys this song as an apology. To anyone who feels let down or hurt, I ask for your forgiveness.”

However, the release was bittersweet as it’s lyrics with the line “I’ll Never Be Back Now” only further confirmed he was serious about retirement. While almost anything is possible with Oliver Tree if his GENIUS interview is to be believed, “Let Me Down” was the last new song to be created from him and his GoodbyeFarewell Tour in 2019 which was cut short, was the last performances he’s do as Oliver Tree – album or not.
