Sahej Explores Love, Hope, and Healing on New Single “Beloved”

Following the release of his debut single “Prayer,” Sahej returns to the spotlight with “Beloved,” a song expanding on his storytelling through memories shaped by illness, resilience, and the people who helped him look toward the future. Rather than writing a traditional love song, the emerging singer-songwriter uses the new release to explore unconditional love, gratitude, and the importance of expressing what often goes unsaid.

Interestingly, the title of the record came before the lyrics and music itself. “I’ve started to notice a pattern where the name of a song comes to me before the lyrics or the music,” Sahej mentions. “I wanted to write a love song, so I used ‘Beloved’ as a placeholder, and eventually it just stayed.”

At the time, many of the people around him were experiencing their own relationships, while he found himself in the familiar role of offering advice from the sidelines. As the dependable wingman among his friends, he began to think about love from a different perspective, less through romance and more through the selflessness that allows relationships to endure.

“The central message of Beloved is the concept of unconditional love,” he explains. “It’s important to recognize the difference between love and obsession. Real love doesn’t ask for anything in return.”

Finding Hope During Difficult Seasons

Although “Beloved” speaks broadly about love, its emotional foundation stretches back to Sahej’s high school days, when an underlying health condition caused frequent hospital stays. Those experiences shaped much of the story long before the lyrics were ever written.

“I wanted to portray the mixture of hopelessness and longing for more that I used to experience in those hospital beds,” he says. “I hope listeners experience some sort of hope when they hear it, as I used to when I needed music to help me sleep in those cramped beds.”

One memory from that time remained especially difficult to forget. As a teenager, Sahej wrestled with how to tell a girl he had been talking to that the confident drum line captain everyone knew was quietly dealing with serious health challenges. “I remember spending days agonizing over how I was going to tell her,” he recalls.

Building the Sound of “Beloved”

The production plays an equally important role in telling the story that is “Beloved.” Long inspired by orchestral music, Sahej had imagined sweeping string arrangements while writing the track, making their inclusion one of his favorite parts of the recording process. “My favorite part of composing this song was when I heard the strings in my head,” he mentions. “I’ve always loved orchestral music, and being able to incorporate that part of me into the song does justice to the past version of me that had gone through the experience.”

Recording sessions also produced unexpected moments that became deeply personal. While in the studio, Sahej missed a phone call from his mother. When he checked his phone, he found a message that simply read, “I just called to say I love you.”

“That hit me like a truck,” he says. “I realized she had unknowingly made me live through the very experience I was trying to convey with the lyrics, the possibility of missing a call from someone who loves you, and it being the last.”

Continuing to Grow as an Artist

“Beloved” also reflects the progress Sahej has made since the release of “Prayer.” Much of his songwriting, production, and vocal development has been self-taught, making each release another opportunity to learn. “I’m much more pleased with how the writing, sonic development, and my own singing have improved,” he says. “At the same time, I’m constantly reminded how much more I have to improve.”

With “Beloved” now available, Sahej hopes listeners leave with one lasting reminder. “The words ‘I love you’ are catchy for a reason, and I don’t think they should be gate-kept. They should be said, with discernment, but they should be said,” Sahej says.

By pairing deeply personal memories with a message rooted in compassion, “Beloved” builds naturally on the foundation established by “Prayer” while revealing another side of Sahej’s songwriting. The result is a release that looks beyond romance, reminding listeners that love often carries its greatest meaning through honesty, gratitude, and the willingness to say what matters while there is still time.
