Universal Music Germany has announced that its highly successful dance label, Virgin Records Germany, has officially rebranded to become Intercord Records. The move revives an iconic name from Germany’s electronic music history, aiming to give the label a distinct identity that honours its heritage while projecting it into the future.
The original Intercord label, founded in 1966, was instrumental in bringing influential acts like Depeche Mode, Moby, and Erasure to German audiences. The relaunch comes after the label’s most successful year to date, driven by a catalogue of global hits amassing over 40 billion streams.
Recent chart-toppers include James Hype’s ‘Ferrari’, Mau P’s ‘Drugs From Amsterdam’, and MEDUZA’s ‘Piece Of Your Heart’. The existing roster, featuring artists like Leony, Ray Dalton, and Alle Farben, will continue under the new banner, guided by the same successful A&R and management team.
This strategic rebrand is designed to strengthen the label’s position as a powerhouse in dance music, not just in Central Europe but globally. Intercord Records is focused on expanding its international presence across Europe, the UK, and the US.
The new brand identity will be officially unveiled during the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) this October at the label’s annual ‘Intercord Mixer’.
