i give my friends flowers Releases Fresh New Album In ‘DOGSTAR 1’

Jacob Klein has officially released ‘DOGSTAR 1’ under the project name i give my friends flowers. Born out of profound personal loss and the devastation of Hurricane Helene in his Asheville community, the twelve-track debut LP serves as a sonic processing of grief, transition and resilience. Opting for a more solitary creative path after shelving an earlier unreleased EP, Klein found solace in a rescued piano to craft a deeply immersive and non-linear record.

Named after Sirius, the Dog Star, ‘DOGSTAR 1’ blurs the boundaries of indie soul, dream pop, lo-fi folk and alternative hip-hop. The album explores what it means to keep choosing love despite losing people to death, distance and change. Klein weaves an intricate tapestry of sound throughout the project, featuring interpolations of an Allen Ginsberg poem and samples of a friend’s wedding vows recorded at the beach. The tracks capture a wide spectrum of human connection, highlighting vivid moments like a dissolving romance set to mellotron strings and a dog responding to the wrong name.

Led by the single ‘VOICES’, the record was tracked and produced across Pittsburgh, Asheville and the New River Gorge. Klein collaborated with a tight-knit circle of artists including Julian Klein and Harrison Wargo, finishing parts of the album in his childhood home outside Pittsburgh. Drawing inspiration from the likes of David Lynch, Haruki Murakami and Pink Floyd, the project was ultimately mastered by Chris Gehringer at Sterling Sound. ‘DOGSTAR 1’ stands as the first chapter in a much larger narrative, with a companion record titled ‘DOGSTAR 2’ already planned to follow.
