Martin Garrix & U2 Team Up For Sure Fire Hit ‘Fireflies’

Multi-platinum Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix has joined forces with 22-time Grammy Award-winning rock legends U2 to release their highly anticipated collaborative single, ‘Fireflies’, out today via Darkroom Records.

The track made its live debut during Garrix’s headlining set at Tomorrowland, featuring a surprise stage appearance from guitarist The Edge. Notably, ‘Fireflies’ marks the first time all four members of U2 have appeared together on a record with Garrix, combining Bono’s unmistakable vocals and U2’s signature stadium sound with Garrix’s driving production style.

On the collaboration Martin shares, ‘Fireflies’ has a very unique mood and it’s a special song we started working on six summers ago. It felt electrifying and very surreal to finally debut it at Tomorrowland with The Edge. I’ve worked with Bono and Edge before, but working with the whole band I got to get a glimpse of their chemistry and why U2 are who they are. They are incredible friends and collaborators, and it has been an absolute honor to work with them again.”

This release continues a rich creative partnership between the artist and the legendary band. Garrix previously joined forces with Bono and The Edge on ‘We Are The People’, the official anthem for the UEFA European Football Championship, and produced the track ‘Scars’ for U2’s EP, Easter Lily.

“We go back a long way with Martin, and there’s always a sense of adventure whenever we get together. Playing Fireflies for the first time at Tomorrowland, in front of one of the most passionate festival crowds anywhere, was such a rush… in fact I might have enjoyed it a bit too much. It reminded me of why I love playing outdoors. I like it better when there’s no ceiling,” said The Edge.

‘Fireflies’ lands in the middle of a massive summer for Garrix, coming on the heels of high-profile collaborations with Madonna on ‘Bizarre’ and Ed Sheeran on ‘Repeat It’. Having just completed the first leg of his Martin Garrix Americas Tour, the Dutch producer is set to continue his summer run across major European festivals.
