Anyma at The Sphere & the Future of Dance Music

I attended Anyma at The Sphere on 12/30 and was blown away by this experience. Production was incredible and the visuals were among some of the best I have ever seen. Like every show, there were some minor issues that I took note of, but overall this residency is laying the groundwork for lots of dance music shows to come at The Sphere.

Doors opened at 9 PM and one of the few complaints I have is that I was hoping for a bit more from the opening acts. While I love Rampa and Keinemusik, he was a questionable pick at best to open for Anyma. The production was very weak and the crowd was not engaged at all, which makes sense considering Rampa was playing an afro-house set to a crowd that was there for melodic techno.

Once Anyma took the stage, the energy completely shifted. The crowd was energized and the visuals stole the show. The visuals that Anyma put on were truly unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The sound system was crisp and the set was fantastic, being split into four separate acts. He played all of his hits and even played some unreleased music, featuring Ellie Goulding and Rufus Du Sol.

The most important takeaway from this experience is that it’s evident that this show is the start of many dance music shows to come at The Sphere. The opportunities are endless and there are so many artists that should get the chance to take up residencies at The Sphere, including Rufus Du Sol and Eric Prydz. Anyma’s Sphere residency will go down as a historic moment in dance music not because of the show itself, but because of how it paved the way for a future of dance music events at The Sphere.
