As justice for racial and LGBTQ+ becomes more and more of a priority throughout the US and the world, many artists have cancelled or delayed releases. However, Khalid & Victoria Monét have embraced the times and hope that their new collaboration ‘Experience’ can provide positivity during these times.
Produced by non other than SG Lewis, the track emits a funky electronic sound, which couples really well with both Victoria and Khalid’s vocals. It is natural progression that after working with the Disclosure boys multiple times, that Khalid would unite with another talented producer in SG Lewis.
In a statement written by Monet posted to both artists’ Instagrams on Tuesday, they announced that their untitled song will arrive on Friday (June 19). “To be honest, we’ve gone back and forth about releasing this song because of the disgusting and confusing state of the world, after a lot of thinking and feeling, we decided to continue with the plan to put it out, so we want to give some context on why.“
“We’ve always used music as a form of escapism from troubling things,” the statement continues. “This song, though deep in subject matter, sonically simply feels joyful and celebratory. It’s important to us to highlight and celebrate Black joy and love in the middle of so much pain and trauma.“
