Boston-based vocalist and producer ROBY releases his new EP “Vividity,” showcasing an exceptional blend of genres and emotions. The EP opens with “fade away,” a track that combines an uplifting and haunting energy with a subtle drum & bass backdrop. ROBY’s lyrics reflect on the aftermath of a break-up, delivered over intricate percussion for a reflective yet intensely engaging sound.
Shifting directions, ROBY presents “way too sentimental,” an emotional pop ballad that highlights his abilities as a singer-songwriter without losing the electronic essence of his production. Following this, “evolve+dissolve,” a collaboration with Andr3w J0hn, offers a dance-floor anthem that, while capable of standing on its own, benefits from the diverse soundscape of the entire EP. This track underscores ROBY’s skill in navigating different musical styles with ease.
ROBY comments on the EP, stating, “I see Vividity as a clean slate for me. Much of my catalog has encompassed various forms of electronic music, primarily leveraging my production skills rather than my songwriting prowess. It feels like I’m truly crafting songs rather than just tracks. I’m proud of the direction the ROBY project is taking.”
Originally known for his future garage productions, ROBY has evolved to incorporate more vocal-driven tracks and meaningful songwriting into his work. His live debut last year was met with enthusiastic feedback, further establishing his distinctive sound that combines vocals with lush, granular atmospheres and a mix of organic and synthesized beats.
Beginning his musical exploration in 2013, ROBY’s passion was ignited by the electronic music scene online, leading him to pursue music over video editing and graphic design. His talent caught the attention of electronic music legend deadmau5, and he has since joined The Tabula Rasa Record Company, planning to release his debut album in the coming summer.
