Ultra Music Festival Supposedly Cancels 2021 Iteration

While it is not surprising, it is not great to hear that Ultra are planning to yet again cancel their flagship Miami event. Billboard note that the event organisers are now trying to lock in 2022 dates with the city of Miami before they announce anything.

Ultra are looking to lock in March 25-27 at their home of Bayfront Amphitheate for 2022.

Dated Jan. 21, 2021, the letter from Ultra attorney Sandy York to Miami city manager Arthur Noriega says that conditions created by the spread of COVID-19 that led city officials to cancel the festival in 2020 are still a threat to festival goers in 2021.

“We anticipate that the City will again invoke the Force Majeure clause” in the license agreement to stage Ultra at Bayfront Park, York wrote. Because the license requires the festival to take place over a single weekend in March, “we respectfully request the rescheduled dates to be March 25, 26, and 27, 2022.”

It was clear in the back half of last year that events would not be taking place in the majority of the world, especially the United States. However, in 2021, with a vaccine and an overall better outlook with COVID – it is unsure whether events are possible towards the end of the year. There are many other large scale festivals that may choose to delay into months like October, however even then, nothing is set in stone.

Ultra had a controversial ticketing policy when it came to 2020’s cancellation, with attendees not being offered refunds. That likley to continue, with 2020 tickets being pushed to the 2022 edition.
