Where It Started: Effin

Your passion and love for music can start at any age. That’s something that hangs in curiosity for many fans. What did this person listen to when they were younger? Who influenced them?

The ‘Where It Started’ series is a platform for artists of all kinds to speak on the anthems that raised them to be who they are now.

Meet Effin: A boundary-pushing artist hailing from Nashville, Effin is rewriting the rules of electronic music. Effin’s sonic landscape is a mesmerizing blend of vintage nostalgia and contemporary bass music, a unique fusion that defies traditional genre boundaries. Nestled in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee, Effin has honed his craft by expertly reshaping retro samples into high-energy audiovisual experiences. His music is a must-listen, offering a fresh take with a classic undertone that captures the essence of timeless sound. With a new album, “Cheap Thrills,” on the horizon, there’s no better time to dive into the electrifying world of Effin and where it all started.

“With this playlist I wanted to show a collection of songs that represent the inspiration for “Cheap Thrills.” To me, these tunes all capture a certain magic that I hope I was able to tap into when creating the album. Even though genre and era-wise they are a bit all over the place, they all have ideas that I think transcend past that. When making music I spend a lot of time trying to create a world for my songs to live in, and these tracks perfectly exemplify how that’s done. There are a few songs that just make you want to dance, it’s hard to top that – but most of the playlist is songs that feature a lot of melancholy, darker themes that carry a lot of nostalgia. To me, that is the essence of “Cheap Thrills,” the longing for a feeling that left just as fast as it appeared. High octane mixed with heartbreak. I hope you enjoy these songs as much as they have inspired me.” – Effin
