Multiversum by Comport has in a short time span built a reputation of delivering remarkable and enjoyable events in Amsterdam through a curated line-up made of local artists and talented guests from around Europe. Ritter Butzke considered one of the best Berlin’s clubs, it helped to shape the effervescent nightlife the city is known for. On the last night of ADE 2019, Ritter Butzke & Multiversum at the Church brought a stacked selection of international names such as Christian Löffler, Dominik Eulberg, and Booka Shade. Ruigoord, an isolated village located north of Amsterdam where in the 70s a group of local artists planned to build an alternative society became the setting for an avant-garde sonic celebration.
The church with its rooted wooden brown columns, rustic white ceilings, and a distinct acoustic space provided the perfect atmosphere for a sonic marathon seasoned with a selection of deep grooves, introspective melodies, and abstract textures. With a crowd composed of locals, expats, and tourists the place slowly filled up as Christian Löffler started his live performance a snippet past 11 pm.
Since appearing on the scene in 2009 with his debut EP Heights, Löffler slowly became a household name with his peculiar production style which extends to beyond dance music and encapsulates a crafted blend of organic elements with machine-made noises. Besides crafting his own music, he is responsible for curating the output of Ki Records and its talented roster with names such as Fejká, Janus Rasmussen and Monokle. As expected, he delivered an elegant performance seamlessly preparing the soil for Dansor who proved she belongs to the elite of the Amsterdam Techno scene.
As the dawn started to materialize and the event glided through its climax, Dominik Eulberg took control of the spaceship playing several tunes across his long and praised career, presenting one of the best sets of the night. One thing remarkable about Eulberg is his uncanny ability to fuse different vibes and meld it into one cohesive whole without compromising his own artistic standards.
Since their last live performance in 2013, Booka Shade took the stage at around 4 am for the most anticipated set of the night. Unfortunately, much of the prior excitement faded away as the first tunes graced the dancefloor; maybe a mix between stage rust and indifference but aesthetically it sounded old-fashioned and left a lot to be desired.
As the sun started to shine, Matthias Schuell stomped on the gas pedal flashing gloomy atmospheres and faster tempos while Animal&Me closed the event with their fusion of deep grooves bundled with a psychedelic flair. Besides a stunning line-up and a powerful sound system, Ruigoord is a special location worth visiting.
