Remix Radar 053: Featuring Jax Jones, Soulwax, and Modeselektor

Remix Radar 53 is here! This week we feature Jax Jones, Soulwax, Modeselektor, and many more great records including one of my favorite “One From The Vaults” to date. This edition is not one to miss. Scroll down for all the fun!

Ella Henderson – Take Care Of You (Jax Jones Midnight Snacks Remix)

Press Play and enter a room full of soaring synths with their wings carrying emotive captivation. It’s Jax Jones newest remix for Ella Henderson’s “Take Care Of You”. There’s a lot to unpack with this remix. Jax Jones has outdone himself and reminds us that he has layers of ingenuity that spans the realms of House and dance music as a whole. On this remix, he brings rich poignancy that we haven’t seen from him before.

LA Priest – What Moves (Soulwax Remix)

Soulwax has been on a Remix binge lately. They continue that string with their spin of psyche-pop darling, LA Priest’s “What Moves”. The remix is fantastically Soulwax with the upbeat percussion and rich texture. The remix almost feels like it could be a Soulwax original and I’m all for that.

Moby – My Only Love (Modeselektor Remix)

I am a huge fan of Modeselektor, Moderat, Apparat, and the other projects that these artists have been a part of. So it will come as no shock that I really enjoy Modeselektor’s reimaging of Moby’s “My Only Love”. The German duo take the record to a darker, prodding industrial sound that is standard for Modeselektor. What forms is a sizzling remix that will slap off the sodden walls of an underground rave in Berlin. It’s perfect.

Mathame – Never Give Up (Adriatique Remix)

This week Mathame’s “Never Give Up” gets the spin from Adriatique. The Swiss duo transforms the record into a slithering somber record that’s devoid of the original’s vocals and the airy and atmospheric nature that built the sound. It’s a nice stylistic change that sees the record become a weapon for melodic techno.

Ben Böhmer Ft. Malou – Breathing (CRi Remix)

Ben Böhmer’s “Breathing” was the wonderful cinematic single from his album of the same name. It also brought forward the beautiful voice of Malou who is poised to move forward as an angelic songstress. The album received its remix pack, which features spins from Boris Brejcha, Kidnap, Tim Green, Gui Boratto, Dominik Eulberg, CRi, Volen Sentir, Just Her, Martin Roth, and Bongbeck, most of which we’ve already received (and featured). In simplest terms, it’s a fantastic remix pack that features some of the most brilliant electronic acts of recent years. The standout of the new remixes comes from CRi who has had a tremendous 2020. His “Never Really Get There” is one of my favorite records of the year and is a truly magical record. It has also featured quite heavily in the mixes of the Anjuna crew. His remix of “Breathing” hits a similar chord of magic and sends listeners on a fluttery poignant wave.

TOKiMONSTA Ft. VanJess – Come and Go (Dombresky Remix)

Dombresky brings some timeless-like heat to TOKiMONSTA’s “Come and Go”. He speeds it up, adds a thumping House beat, and adds some classic synth work. The record goes from a slow-rumbling airy record into a punchy House record that feels as though it was plucked directly out of the 90s House wave. I love that classic and timeless sound and Dombresky nails it.

Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande – Rain On Me (Purple Disco Machine Remix)

Part of me is quite surprised to see Purple Disco Machine remix the collaboration of — arguably — the two biggest pop stars. On the other hand, it does make sense because he is an exquisite producer who is masterful in his use of disco-style sounds, which are making a comeback in the pop world and beyond. It shines through as he absolutely crushes this remix and brings a timeless feel to turn this into a monster dance-pop record.

Dele Sosimi & Medlar – Full Moon (Detroit Swindle Remix)

Dele Sosimi helped to pioneer Afrobeat music as the keyboardist for the legend, Kela Kuti. In the past few years, he has been releasing his on Afrobeat records that are incendiary records that help to continue the legacy of Kuti and Afrobeats. Detroit Swindle takes the reins and provides the remix of Dele’s most recent single, “Full Moon”. The Dutch duo adds a bit more funk and speeds the record up to create the perfect remix that will mesmerize dancefloors.

Horse Meat Disco Ft. Kathy Sledge – Jump Into The Light (Aeroplane Remix)

Horse Meat Disco released their “Jump Into The Light” with a 7″ and 12″ mix, plus this remix from Aeroplane. All three versions are incredible with a delicious groove and a sound design that tantalizes. The Aeroplane remix is draped in nu-disco stylings with a bit more of a focus on the thumping beat and vocal from Kathy Sledge.

EDX – The Time Is Now (Wh0 Remix)

Wh0 has had a crazy 2020. Seriously, go look at their discography for the year. Its record after record of great dance music. Their roll continues with their spin of EDX’s “The Time Is Now”. They remove the piano, add a deeper, more driving beat, and blanket the vibe in a coat of mystery to bring forward a prodding House record.

Dimitri From Paris & Aeroplane – Can’t Get Enough (Yuksek Remix)

Enter a world of mystique built by delectable disco and funk sounds. You’ll be tantalized from the first speckle of sound. That’s how spectacular this Yuksek remix of Dimitri From Paris and Aeroplane’s “Can’t Get Enough”. It’s a shimmery remix that is designed to get everyone and anyone out of their seats and dancing.

Julian Jeweil – Draft (Popof Remix)

Let’s change things up and get lost in Techno. Julian Jeweil is quite frequent Beatport chart-topping French Techno act with an extensive touring history and is easily an act that you should listen to if Techno is your thing. Most recently, he dropped the EP, Metallique, which includes the Popof remix of “Draft”. Popof is also a French Techno (and House) act that has quite an impressive discography and touring history. It’s not a surprise that he would connect with Jeweil and remix his track to wondrous effect. If you enjoy Techno, then you’ll love Popof’s remix as it twists and shakes with molten magnetism.

ONE FROM THE VAULT

Mano Le Tough – Primative People (Tale Of Us Remix)

Two of the best and most inventive artists connect on this remix. Mano Le Tough is insanely talented and is at the forefront of the underground Techno and House scene. Tale Of Us is also in a similar realm and have brought under some of the best underground-styled dance music of recent times. The duo’s remix of “Primative People” is beautiful with poignancy and hopeful emotions. The remix did help to launch Tale Of Us into the minds of many and send their career to new heights.
